Cafes, coffee stops and favourite greasy spoons in the North West

Ivy ever even attempted to spread clotted cream it’s usually piled at least an inch ch or more high on the scone. Basically piled as high as I can get it.
philistine! next you'll be telling me to drink the tea from the saucer :D :D

Fekkin heathens. 😉 Try spreading proper clotted cream on top of jam. Impossible.
I suppose you put jam on your toast and then butter it eh? No, thought not. You probably get off your bikes on the right hand side too don't you?
Weirdos. :D

Edit: I keep thinking it's Friday me 😜
Absolutely(y)

Is there an open cafe up at the top of the Hartside anymore ?
Passing that way tomorrow but quick google look says not

thanks

@geotim mentioned only last week, the butty van has gone. The cafe went up in flames in 2018 JB, so now there's just the view to enjoy. ....weather dependent of course. 👍

It is Friday..... now 😁

Just to be a smart arse, you could get a scone butter both halves and put jam on one half and cream on the other then squish it together, ta da!

On a similar subject is anyone else like me and refuse to eat from MacDonalds or Burger king because they don't butter the bread?
its a cost saving exercise which works for me as i never eat there... saving a fortune.

My reason for not eating at Macdonald's / Burger King is because they're shite.:barf

Although i did use them while riding through France, just because the touch screens have an English option. I could order food without having an awkward conversation with someone who only spoke French.

You are correct though, shit bland food.
Like eating cardboard.

Yep, no idea what Dawn is planning on doing with the Hartside Cafe site. She should never have demolished the old building, she would have been able to renovate it and keep all the existing infrastructure. Doing it from scratch means she has to meet the new building and sewerage regs, which alone will cost hundreds of thousands I suspect.

The Nook seems to be the default stop now, following a fuel up at the Spar garage in Alston.

There are a couple of very nice cafes in Alston itself, but they’re a bit cramped inside for bikers resplendent in full RTW adventure suits… 😎

The pub in Melmerby has new owners and does nice food, and there’s the bakery there too.

I should really start selling brews from my cottage window!

Not the same reason but I don’t eat in those places as they don’t serve food. Maccy Ds coffee is not bad though.
