Cafes, coffee stops and favourite greasy spoons in Yorkshire & Humberside

I must admit I also quite like Penny Garth, had a very nice bacon and egg butty and decent coffee there a few months back, first time there in a few years. Had the mis fortune of going to Squires again a few weeks ago out of curiosity (I know should have known better) - they describe themself as a cafe but wow, an absolute dive, wouldn't eat there if it was free.
Squires can only be described as a cafe if you are spelling " cafe " as SH*THOLE

Does the slightly grumpy French lady still own it JB?
It’s leased from the builders merchant I think

Sadly not I think

Her (ex) husband still may do or likely not and maybe somebody completely different now, I must admit I don’t go there much, preferring Askrigg or Bainbridge as suitable watering holes

Not really on a biker route but the courtyard cafe at Balby court business campus is truly excellent with all local butcher sourced ingredients and a nice place inside

Takes a bit of finding of course but if you are ever in the area looking for good food I recommend it

The Field House Coffee Barn, Tibthorpe, excellent selection of food, and plenty of seating.

I believe a few car clubs use this as venue, too. I’ve heard it has a good reputation.
Maybe taking-up where the NY500 in Pickering left off?

There used to be a bakery in the village of Hovingham which also had a tea shop. Not sure if tis still there but we used it often for a lunch stop.... and judging by the Google street view pic a lot of other bikers had the same idea......

It’s still there, Grant. Covid just about scuppered it in 2020 then it wobbled a bit on and off for a few years; lost its way and didn’t seem to know what it wanted to do.
This year, it’s been the liveliest I’ve seen it for the past six years.
Their selection of breads and tarts were second-to-none for many years. ✔️
I’m sure I saw Selina Scott wander out of there a while back (not sure what she had to do with tarts; though, she was very easy on the eye).
If you have to eat round those parts, there’s the ‘Dogh’ in Welburn where the tarts are equally as delicious; and so are the sticky buns, too. 👍

Edit to add: further on up the road at Ampleforth, you can get a religious coffee from their College bistro. Lovely N Yorkshire countryside around there 👍
