OK. I was on nights last night and have been asleep today, hence no reply. I think there's a fine line between what looks good and bad on a GS. I have the stock luggage which I think looks good, my mate has the TT aluminium ones on his 1150, I think they look functional but still have enough style to look good. All this takes on the TT ones are a few ribs to act as "style lines" (as well as adding rigidity).
These Caja ones are coffin-like boxes and make the bike look like a hamburger stand or a scoot for an overambitious pizza-boy. They look home-made, which is fine if you've knocked them up yourself for cheapness but not for a professionally made and marketed product. For what it's worth, if they are cheap I applaud the man for producing a bargain that some peeps obviously like: if they're expensive I applaud him for getting away with it.
Before you ask, yes I could do better myself but having spent 10 grand on a bike I wasn't about to get cheap when it came to the luggage.
Besides, they don't look pillion friendly.
Dinger Dings !
I would like , if i may to take your Last point First.
Which is the Question of Pillion friendly, ness
In Common with a lot of you Chaps , i {Have To} regulary take my
partner with me , be it a wee spin round the County , or that annual
jaunt in search of Sun . She , God bless her , was not gifted with ;Long legs
she has a rather Short wee leg.
I have to take her into my consideration when making even my own
panniers , so to that end i can firmly say there is no question of the
pillion being discomforted in any way what so ever , Cos i simply would have
heard about it before now.
On your first point , I agree , there most certaintly is a Fine line
between what looks good , and what is Down right ugly.
However i must dissagree , for me the Panniers look good. I know that simply
because i think i looks good , does not mean it actually looks good. In the
opening pages of my Website i say that "its the customer that dictates "
to that end , i offer a custom making facility , if you wanted your panniers
ribbed , i can do that too !.
Second Point : Home made , Maybe , but again i can provide you
with a multitude of finnished , which include "powder coating " or paint "
with all that that leaves open to your imagination.
Third Point : On this i am somwhat miffed ,
Quote" For a professionally made and Marketed Product: ! .
Well , Thanks , But doesnt that just dispell the other points.
I am just finnishing a new shape of pannier and top box .The Caja sahel
pannier will be a constantly evolving pannier , there will be other shapes
materials , Who knows. But as it sits , these are as good as you are going
to get.
