Calais to Germany

Will be travelling from Calais to Jockgrim in Germany (about 50 miles NW of Stuttgard) on Thursday next week, any suggestions on good roads and places to stay on route, avoiding motorways/main roads.

The roads around Luxembourg are nice, as is the town. Plus the fuel is cheap there.

I'd be tempted to blast across the top of France / Bottom of Belgium to around Mons, and then have a play in the Eiffel region.
