My wife and I had a great trip last month to the Vosges via Charleville-Mezieres although a bit cold at 11 degrees C. Great place to stop finding a nice apartment close to the main square (see attached) which had plenty of bars and restaurants

Following day was spent riding down to Colmar via Metz using all D roads which were both scenic and enjoyable.

Cannot say enough about Colmar. So much history, amazing architecture, great shops and indoor market, so many bars and restaurants. Great base for enjoying the area. Stayed at Hotel Turenne for 4 nights which had secure underground parking close to the ‘little Venice’ area.

Day 3 of the bike. Short walk to the station to take the train to Strasbourg. An amazing city and a must if you visit this area. One day was not enough to really appreciate all it had to offer

Day 4 another ride into the Vosges but this time to one of the best preserved castles Haut Koenigsbourg (actually renovated in 1908 under the orders of Kaiser Wilhem II) then a ride across the Rhine to take in some of the Black Forrest. A little damp late morning but dried up later in the afternoon.

Following day started riding back home via the Vosges mountains (taking in the D416 for a second time, a great road) and Metz, again, eventually to Bouillon where we spent our last night abroad. Bouillon out of season was dreadful. Suggest maybe for a lunch stop only. Our accommodation was the worst in many years. Lesson learnt - check the reviews before you book!

Was thoroughly spoilt by some great traffic and pot hole free roads. Ride back via Dartford and the A12 through numerous road works made reminded us why we so enjoying riding abroad

No problem.

I have cut your trip report from your holiday enquiry thread.
