Anyone know much about them, was the 1997 model ok?
 
Don't know but does anyone know if retro fitting the older tank, seat etc is a straight forward job?

I loved the look of this outfit that was for sale earlier in the year.

I had a 2002 Cali Stone. Lovely bike that went like Billyo and will run to 130Mph. There's an Airbox mod that makes a real difference to the performance.

You can buy the diagnostics software if you want to service them yourself. Simply plugs into the ECU and lets your run all the diagnostic tests, read and clear fault codes, adjust the tick over and zero the throttle position sensor - Cost around £150 when I bought it. http://www.technoresearch.com/index.php?pid=2 Its a little strange tweaking the mixture and tick over from the buttons on your laptop but you soon get used to it.

I'd have another without any hesitation.

after 2002 they went to self adjusting tappets. This caused a few issues but you can install standard tappets.

My mate has run it for 2 years and it has been fine

Can't beat a good Guzzi :friday
 
had one for 8 years and it never missed a beat, dead simple to service, and runs very well 2 up, good for shorter riders and the insurance is very cheap.
 
Same bike as this and this colour, 14000 miles

Should be seeing it in a week or so

If you buy it keep it away from grey clouds ... oh no no, it doesn't have to see rain to peel the chrome tat off.

From my limited research so far, it seems the post 2000 models did that - before their recent renaissance

Earlier bikes were mainly alloy and better, only thing is relays, but these can be replaced by some from the USA for £20, if they give trouble

Looks just the sort of bike to do a relaxed D road tour of France, like your last ride report

Oddly enough, and though I did my recent tour on the 1200 I did at times think how nice it would have been to have done a similar route on my Cali I had a few years previous. In fact I was very close to completing a deal on a new California Vintage before settling for the current GS, it was that close.

Early bikes suffered awful chrome rot, rusted leading and trailing edges of both front and rear mudguards. The alloy would also fir up if left in the damp.

My most recent Guzzi was an 02 Stone, the Hepco rack and pannier rails didn't take too long to show corrosion either. Issues have plagued the Guzzi finish for decades. The finish may not be such an issue in its homeland but in the UK it must be garaged or re-plated or better still, sparkly bits painted, in my opinion.
I'm sure there is some truth in the better quality of finish on the Piaggio built models but then that's irrelevant to this thread, and the bike you have an interest in.

There's a LOT of truth in that, well as far as my Griso is concerned anyway :)

TBH I've never had an issue with the finish on any Guzzi I have owned but I have only had T3's and their ilk. I've never had a modern(ish) Cali so can't comment on them.

Useful to know, it's owned by a GS owning mate & I've had a word about rust & finish & he says it's good - mint for a 15 yo bike

He's nearly a fussy as me too :-0

He has a Mk 1 Le Mans owned for 20 years so knows his Guzzi's

Fancying something a bit different & not a Harley

Had a fleeting interest in Guzzi's since seeing Cookie's bikes & a dealer in town has had the franchise for 4 years
 
just buy it JB, then you can come to the V-Twin rally in fordingbridge.

we'll rope andres in as well :)

The Guzzi brigade can then hook up with the Gnarley Harleys here - V twins are go
 
It moved from Shaftesbury a few years back, when tesco built on the camping field.
