Cambrian Rally 2009

Anybody done this? Is it for hardcore off-roaders or can off-road numpties like myself partake? Any help/advice appreciated; I'll be on my newly acquired DRZ400E.

Perfect event and bike for the Cambrian...And there's no such as an offroad numpty your looking to have a go and the UK rally scene is a great way to start and I can guarantee you'll be hooked after the first one :thumb2

Get your entry in early as it a popular event and hook up with us guys on the day there will be loads of the guys ands gals off the site doing this one:thumb2

:thumb2 Cheers for that Pipster, I'll get my entry form off. I was going with my mate but he had a big off (yes, he's a numpty too!!) and damaged his wrist. We're hoping he'll be OK by the time the Cambrian starts. What's the take up on entries, does it fill up quickly or could he leave it to the last minute?

Sent off entry yesterday, I'll wait 'n' see. In the regs I noticed "Trail" is footpegs and indicators fitted and sport bikes seems to be open to just about anything enduroish. Hmmm I think. Better do some cycling or just try lifting the xchallenge of the ground!

as long as it's better than the complete abortion that was the Dyfi Rally(which was actually a time card enduro) last weekend. Hopefully my leg will be fixed for the Cambrian, but not banking on it.

This is a good big bike event.

Hopefully Stu and I will be there - just sent the entries off so I hope we are not too late.

I'm in.

I've done it for the last 2 years and it's very well run. A lot of fast open fire tracks. Strata Florida is the only testing part of the lap and even then they ony use app half of it.

'scuse my ignorance folks, but I had a quick look at the Cambrian rally website and it doesn't really tell you much about the event.

Is it off road orienteering (no gps) or timed off road riding via checkpoints and mapreading or a marked course or something completely different?

Can anyone shed some light?

Ta
Mike.

how "spectator" friendly are these events? Having marshalled for donkeys years on car rallies, i'd like to start doing a few bike ones too. Any pointers? :thumb2

Its a marked course (gayglo arrows usually) consisting of gravel forestry roads, some single track tarmac, and off road sections. None of it is overly technical, but a relaxed day's trail riding with a couple of timed "stages" to determine the results. An ideal introduction to off road competitions for novices, friendly atmosphere, loads of advice and assistance available from the majority of the entry.
Of course, some of us do take it deadly serious when the lights go green. :green gri

Earthmover: Thanks for that.

Just read the regs.

Whats the difference between a "Trail" bike and a "Sports" bike in the regs?

Where does the G650X & R1200GS fall in these categories?

Wots all this about: "Trail bikes must be fitted with pillion footrests..." ??

(G650X & DRZ400E dont come with any as standard)
