The Girlfriend and I are heading to France for a few weeks. When I have went in the past I was on my own so camping was by far the cheapest option, but I hear that you pay per room and not per person for B+B's.
Does anyone have a rough idea on B+B prices at the moment? We'll probably still take the tent as a back up but if a room is only 5 or 10 pounds more we will be staying there!

i've not done b and b, but the average cost for the hotels i tend to stay in, cost about €50/70 per room, per night.

more expensive than camping, but i'm beginning to think not carrying all that camping crap makes the journey more pleasant.

We are out and about quite a lot here in France and normally pay around 45 to 50 euros for a hotel for the night for both of us.
We were in the Ardeche a couple of months ago and stopped in a hotel near the centre of Aubenas with secure parking and a lovely room which was 51 euros.
If you are down this way (Dordogne) then let us know - email is on my blog on www.bikesindordogne.blogspot.com.

camping this time year - hope u have a good sleeping bag and ground mat??? unless you are on the coast easily expect figures around zero during the night

The Logis de France were good value for me - the meal in the evening seems to be a set piece, but the food is good and the welcome always excellent. I did camp as well, but I'm used to full on mountain expeditions. If you are cold and wet you'll get a better holiday with a warm bed and a good meal in the evenings. You get to dry your kit out as well. Good for a bit of passion as well, and you get to carry less kit ... I've got a set of POIs on the other machine - want me to share?

+1 ;)

Camping with decent kit everytime over B&B.
Much cheaper, sites are everywhere - use the Municipal ones.
Went over for 2 weeks in August and there were loads of friendly bikers happy to share a beer and chew the fat - one night in F1 was dire by comparison.

1 night hotel for each 2 nights camping.

I enjoy camping - camraderie, fresh smell of warm grass, better views etc - but in Summer sleep less well with early sun and pigeons etc and, especially if it is raining or have long distances to ride, a hotel bed every third night is welcome.

I posted before, hotel means you leave 9am, camping you leave 10am and need to stop a bit earlier. All in all, you cover longer distances if hotelling.

Depends on how sorted you are..and I'm a morning person so the sun is a nice wake up - I prefer to get up fairly early and enjoy the empty roads. It only takes me 15 minutes to have the tent and everything packed up. My big time saver is to pack everything up and leave the breakie stuff in the top of your pannier/bag get down the road 25-60 minutes find a nice spot and stop and have a coffee. It stops the laying there have a scatch and fart arsing around. It also allows me to stop earlier.
I do also like the hotel/pension the night before the normally long autobahn ride home. bit fresher for the slog
