Campsites in Ireland

Hi all
Looking for some campsites in Ireland.
Me and the mrs did part of the WAW in 2016 and found no problem booking sites online before we went.
We are trying now to book for July we will be arriving at Belfast and heading to newgrange and then Sligo and back up around the north coast including the causeway and back to Belfast,the trouble we’re having is the sites we’re using (pitch up)all try to divert us to hotels and glamping (we are totally flexible) but can’t seem to find any camps (the wilder the better) any advice for a better way of looking or personal experience would be a godsend.

I would assume most may be booked already. Or very few now advertise on pitchup.

I would use Google to find any along your route and go to them directly.

I'm recently back from a trip around most(ly) the coastal route of Ireland. Thought i'd share a synopsis of my experience, routes & scenery to help others considering the journey, routes and roads to ride.

Total days ridden; 6
Mileage: 1800-1900

Start/finish: Rosslare Harbour

My aim was to cover around 300 miles a day/8 hours riding time. This was more of a riding holiday, than sight seeing tourist attraction jaunt. If i was to do it again there'd certainly be parts of the route i would change, but none the less really enjoyed what i had planned.

Hi, July will be peek holiday season in Ireland so places will be busy.

I stumbled upon this place a few years ago https://irishmilitarymuseum.com/plan-your-visit/

It has a small basic campsite behind the museum, it's a few miles north of Newgrange and the Battle of the Boyne center, email them to see if the campsite is still in operation.


For Sligo try these sites https://sligocaravanandcamping.ie/

They are on the coast a few miles out of Sligo, they get busy with surfers.


On the Causeway coast you could try these sites a few miles away from Ballycastle.

We wandered around the Green isle for weeks last year - We use an app called “ Search for Sites “
It’s a paid app but it’s only about £8 or so I think but it is a BRILLIANT resource !
Used it all the way from Scotland up To Norway n back camping off the bikes also last year .
Here is a wee “ Snap Shot “ of what it looks like ,, it has All the info in an easily usable manner you just pick a likely one and click on it and all the info on it drops down on a side bar .
You do not require a phone signal if you simply download the desired map tiles

The Beach Bar near Aughris in Sligo used to offer tent pitches. Lovely spot and a great pint:

the Wild Nephin range has a car park and a bothy near Newport, @ Letterkeen trail head.

off the L1824, Tawnyard the scenic point, or into the lane down to the forrestry.

When we did WAW in June last year we didn’t book anywhere just rocked up never got turned away once.
