so I rode out hour or so; unknowingly a lot of oil leaked past the oil-filter o-ring which did not have enough squish on it to properly seal. Oil warning light never came on (so lets say >10 psi above the crank)., but it was a liter of oil down by the time I stopped. I dropped the oil in a clean pan, and there were tiny specks of metal. I cut the oil filter, and it too had maybe 20 tiny specks of probably aluminium. I dropped the oil pan, some carbon deposits nothing else.
Anyway heads and cylinders & pistons off, they look fine. No play in the conrods
Pushrods are chewed up badly, especially on the exhaust side where they go through the head, so was hoping that explained the metal specks in the oil. The cam-lobes looked fine, but on rotating, I noticed the right exhaust lobe has a piece knocked out on the rise, probably 2mm wide, possibly caused by the damaged pushrod. Followers all have minor circular scoring, enough to be resurfaced or replaced.
I think next course of action will be to remove the conrods and then check the timing chain Any advice welcome.
