I found this plug type switch underneath what appears to be the air box or bottom of the fuse box on the near side on my R1100GS, it seems to move either right or left but can't find any description of it the Haynes manual.

Is it a drain plug? Can anyone enlighten me as to its purpose please?

This is a drain for essive engine oil which is caught in the inlet tract, just drain it now and again use somthing to catch it in as it can be quite a bit and can make a mess.

Worth draining from time to time, as if oil has collected and your bike falls on its side you can get oil running back along the inlet and in to the engine.

I don't think it does any damage, but you sure get a fright when all that smoke comes out of the exhaust when you get the bike upright and start it.

DAMHIK ;)
