Can Bus 5 amp limit on aux Socket Eh what?

I have read the first 15 pages of threads for 1200 GS but can't see and answer to this.

I want to fit a small secondary fuse box under the seat of my 1200 GSA. Needs to power 2 x autocom and small usb charging cable for phone or i pod. Got the little fuse box from NN. I want it to be switched with the ignition and not permanently live, but if I am reading correctly if I just cut into the under seat aux socket then anything over 5amp drain will cause the can bus (should this be can't bus) to switch it off?

If this is right do I need a relay that is switched from the aux socket and a feed from the battery? If so is there a pre made kit to do this?

Any-one help as electricity is not my strong point?

Yes and yes.

FWIW, the Autocom and iPod charger togther should be nowhere near the canbus limit.

I can't be bothered trying to expain what CanBus actually is anymore. I know what they mean isn't what they're saying and what they actually want is something else again.

But isn't a forum about helping people without getting involved in semantics???

You are right of course - I was just interested in how the box of Pixie dust works - ZFE is a new one on me .... I googled it and it came up as something to do with a Jimmy Hendrix Jam session - Last time I looked I ddnt see a 1960's guitar genius under my seat .... So hence the question ...

And it is only Monday

Thanks to all for answers, Please don't explain Can Bus as this will be like explaining theory of relativity to my cats. Knowledge may be power but a little knowledge is dangerous.

Think I'll try and find loom done as will be neater than anything I do just in case I end up with further electrical loads in future, although is clearly over kill for current weedy use.

Rather than mount under the seat the neatest place is to mount the fuse panel on the back of the air box here

Mine isn't switched 'cos as well as running bits'n'bobs off it I also run my heated jacket - combined, plenty high enough to trip out the 'virtual' fuse - so it's wired direct to the battery.

TBH I can't see any reason why I'd want it to be switched

Thanks again - Mines mounted and when I can I'll post a photo. I have cut the big silver plastic under pillion seat plate and mounted it to the top of the mudguard. This means it sits flush with the plastic plate. Looks very neat!

However also now found http://easternbeaver.com/index.html posted by Digga - May last year - Great site with specific can bus relay switched loom for centech fuse box! Perfick!

Outtomuch what gauge wire are you using to hook up to the battery? I've been procrastinating with this job on my F800GS and not being an electrical whizz things have to be spelled out in clear terms... otherwise I tend to fry/electrocute/break (choose appropriate word )

no doubt I'll find the necessary wire in halfords?

ZFE, ZETRUM FAHRER ELECTRONICS/CENTRAL RIDER MODULE/BLACK BOX call it what you will but be aware that they dont like being f*cked with!!!!

And theyre expensive!
