Can Bus advice (rear accessory socket)

Hi all

I'm looking for some technical advice or experience, when i purchased my 2012 gs1200 the wires to the rear accessory socket had been cut and terminated with some taped up terminal blocks (it works and the power is live). i have wired in a 12 cigarette lighter and usb socket with the intention of charging my phone and a drift ghost camera battery. Reading around there is some issues with overloading the socket and the can bus not liking it (anything over 5 amps) Reading the camera charger the input requires 150ma and looking at iPhone charging requirement from the usb socket requires 1amp roughly.
After all that I'm thinking it should be safe using this accessory socket and not overloading it with just these 2 items am i right?

i am thinking of going direct to the battery with a fuse box etc but I'm looking for some technical advise on the above?

I was under the impression that an I phone needed 2 amps to charge or it could be that the USB that is needed requires 2 amps ??
The can bus won't go over 5 amps so as long as you stay below that you will be fine.

If it is just a question of charging or running the camera what about a power pack as a decent one will run the drift all day long

USB 2 can deliver up to 5A at 5 volts (25watts). 2A at 12.5V will deliver 25watts so well within the Canbus scope, even with USB adapter losses.

Connect a Hella socket direct to the battery with a 10amp fuse. You can then use it for anything inc tyre inflators without problems. Additionally, you can connect a Opitmate charger to it when the bike's not in use to keep the battery topped up. I've installed one on all my bikes and they are great.

Canbus is quite capable , runs my iPhone charger and (via a wee fly-lead) 60 W heated jacket simultaneously.
