Hi folks,

I`ve got my spanking new Toshiba laptop & Canon iP 4200 printer & was wondering if I could connect them wirelessly to be able to print things?

Cheers

AFAIK, the only way to print wirelessly is if both the computer and printer are Bluetooth-enabled, or if the printer can be connected to the network directly.

I may be wrong though :D

Yes indeed.

I have a router with Wireless acces point. The laptop connects to that.

The printer has a separate network interface, also connected to the router.

Two PC's are wired to the router.

Laptop + 2 PC's can print, works a treat.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, ask you local puter store, they'll get you sorted. :thumb

That is an excellent printer, have you tried the Duplex printing yet, I couldn't believe the photo quality, and it was £49.95 at Ebuyer.

As MiGSel said you can buy wireless routers which include a print server but you can also buy separate wireless print servers.

In simple terms this means you have your box that plugs into to your cable/BT/adsl line which sends out a wireless signal. Some of them will let you plug a printer into them but the printer needs to be near where your cable comes into the house.

What I have is a second box which the printer plugs into which can be moved around anywhere in the house (or within range of the wireless signal)

A word of caution: not all printers work with these wireless servers. Check that yours does before buying.

Another word of warning: for some really annoying reason a lot of these don't work with Mac computers or only work with Mac computers with Apple Talk (which is not part of the current OSX Tiger)

Otherwise they work great :thumb
