This is exactly why I hate Touratech. You could almost buy a whole motorcycle for that money (in fact my last winter hack cost less than that!)

I've had two GSA's, the first had the panels fitted from new, and I never experienced the muck that many complained of experiencing while riding their bikes whilst i had them fitted....
....I had my second GSA a month or so before I got around to fitting them and the mud was everywhere!...once fitted it was drastically reduced...so in my opinion yes they do work.

I don't do bling...but if it's practical and it works I'll put it on....these work in my opinion, as well as tidying up the look of the bike in the process.
As regards getting my bike dirty, I'm happy to get it dirty just as I quite enjoy cleaning it......it's certainly got dirty enough on it's trips to Serbia/Bosnia/Albania/Montenegro/Macedonia/Ukraine/Crimea/Romania/Slovakia/Slovenia...etc etc!
Oh....do I think it's overpriced?....yes..£180 is a lot of money!...but I've had mine for years so they've done well.
DB is right, I don't think I've ever had a bike which is such a shite magnet around the arse end as my GSA !
I've got one of those Maier mudsling things from Val H, and a rear mudguard extender from Mr Hooton, but there is still room for improvement.
My R80 GS doesn't get anywhere near as filthy - even when I take it greenlaning

follow the link below and it tells you how to make the side panels from rubber for a couple of quid or free if you have the rubber at work... it took me about 20 minutes to make and 40 minutes to fit. Have been on the bike for four years and work fine. I dont have a problem with crud, but when it rains it helps keep the water off my boots.

Fair do's, can't say I've experienced a problem tbh, but if some get the benefit that's all that matters

True, all they do is trap mud around the subframe etc and allow it to rust
12GS has a design fault and BMW should have fitted a better mudguard, then you wouldn't need a mudsling/sidepanels
No probs with 1100 or 1150GS

A 1200GSA is a trailbike?.....Naaaaah!
It's much more like an RT that some Saur Kraut didn't finish off with the correct number of body panels cos' it was late in the day and Helga was needing a good seeing too!
However I will confess to the fact that in the 'Touratech's Teutonic Sale Madness' that I did indeed hand over an overlarge amount of Euros that could have been spent on Beer and Fraulines.......Or a good hooker in Rottweill!
I like the look of my new shiny black plastic panels but didn't realise that the crap that hits your legs is now besplattered all over my less than pristine rear subframe making my £100 Mudsling(a veritable bargain to behold in the land of black plastic bargains) very difficult to get at. Although my legs are much cleaner!
Also.....How do I adjust my non ESA rear suspension? Touratech have supplied me with a new 'aluminium minature knurled 'knob' which can only be adjusted by means of the 'Special' Touratech Tool' which you shove through a hole in the sidepanel and is around the size of a VW Golf's wheelbrace! If i'd had ESA on my 1200 then I'd be wondering why there was a hole in the sidepanel letting mud through and why I was paying extra for a knob, two spacers, allen bolt and a wheel brace thingy I didn't need!
All in all though I like my Touratech bling, most of it looks good and does the job intended but boy it's an expensive habit and one that'll take some weaning!

One my first non-ESA GSA I took off the original large black turning knob for the suspension. I then carried this with me in my kit, along with the correct screwdriver for the side panels...
....if I needed to adjust the suspension I'd just take the panel off with the screwdriver, push on the adjuster, adjust, pull off, then re fix the panel....sounds long winded but only took 3 minutes! ....I never liked the look of the 'adapter' or ever found it lined up with the hole in the side panel.

Just easier to do it like that to be honest...the alternative is to have a huge hole like the Wunderlich one..which looks unsightly in my opinion.
I'm not arguing that it's not expensive...I just think they perform a function, both practically and visually.....if I'm honest I think BMW should supply them as standard..or as an extra, and I wonder how much they would charge!?!??

£20 for front mudguard extender
£100 for mudsling(or £60 for a Maier one which I bought off here)
£180 for Touratech sidepanels(£100 from the Touratech Niedereschach sale)
OR you could spend.....£500-£1000 for an aftermarket exhaust system which is a bit odd considering your bike comes from the factory with a prefectly functioning one unlike the rest of the above...........!!!!!!
