Can the Aux2 volume on an Autocom be increased?

I have an Autocom Super Pro AVI which has the following items connected to it:

Aux1 - Bluetooth dongle for phone
Aux2 - PURE Highway,DAB radio via 1314 cable
Aux3 - Garmin Zumo via 1314 cable

Everything works fine and mutes when phone rings and fades when Zumo is talking etc. The only problem I have is that the volume of the DAB radio is just too low when we are wearing ear plugs but definitely loud enough when we are not. That being the case, I don't need much extra volume.

I have the DAB radio bike powered, hence the 1314 cable to prevent ground loop, BUT when it it powered otherwise than using AA batteries, the volume control is disabled, so that I cannot simply turn up the volume on the radio.

I am aware that the volume of Aux2 can be 'tweaked' internally, so I sent an email to Autocom and this was the response:

I'm afraid the only adjustment is for outgoing volume Regards

I queried it and the response was:

At this point in time we only have limited resources, and are extremely busy meeting the current demand. Maybe in the future when we are in a more stable situation we can do that sort of thing

I am quite disappointed about the response, so my questions here are:

Does anyone here know if this is a DIY job, will anyone here do it for me or is it something that is best left alone?

Finally, will one of these Boostaroo things work? Has anyone tried?

Try this chap, I believe he used to work for Autocom.

Boosteroo works well so could be another route for you to try....

Thanks CC - I had emailed Sam at Chainspeed and the reply was:

1. Can the Autocom be adjusted so that Aux2 has slightly more volume? Unfortunately not.

2. Does the 1314 cable take away some of the volume? Yes, a little due to the nature of how the isolation modules work.

So the bottom line is that I don't think I will be able to have it adjusted so will look at getting an 'in-line' booster. This one seems to fit the bill and has a volume control too!

I can vouch for the effectiveness of the Boostaroo... and the batteries last ages in it.....

But that fiio E5 looks pretty neat and compact

Until recently I had my ipod in a handlebar bag with the boostaroo, connected up to the autocom...

Now I've got a 660 all the music is on that, but the volume is still a tad low with earplugs in... so thinking I'll probably employ the boostaroo again but thinking of placing it somewhere near ( behind) the right hand plastic panel on the 1200 That's where the wires for the 660 end up

Interestingly enough I have the opposite problem.

The Pure Highway when powered off the bike disables the volume control and outputs at a full volume. I've had to put one of those inline headphone volume controls between the DAB and the Autocom 300, and that includes wearing very good earplugs.

I spent ages trying to find a volume control that I could mount on the handlebar that would sit between the DAB and the Autocom, but gave up in the end.

That's interesting Dae, .....I wonder if maybe the volume just remains where it was when battery powered?

I might put in batteries and crank up the volume and then see what the result is then. Certainly worth a try.

Before I went a bike run today, I unplugged the Highway and powered it up with 2 x AA batteries, which allowed me to crank up the volume.

I removed the batteries and used bike power and that sorted the problem, I had plenty of volume....... well at least till the afternoon because it seemed to reset itself back to a lower volume!

I think I will get one of the fiio E5's!!

I use a boostaroo to lift the volume of my mp3 player, bike to bike radio volume is fine.

Sorry for the delay, I couldn't remember how to reduce the size of the photos to upload them!!

Anyway, I have fitted the aerial to the screen as shown - I have left enough slack in the wire so that I can remove the screen with it attached.

The DAB radio itself, I initially had it in the little bag as seen in the photo but I later adapted it and as the unit can be secured to a screen mount by a magnet, I removed the screen mount part and glued it inside the glovebox, up under the overhang bit and the DAB now attaches magnetically under the shelf as you can just about see in the photo.

The unit is wired into the Autocom and hard wired to the bike via the fused cigarette plug. - I have a switch under the dash which I click on when I want to listen to the radio and it switches on to the last station that I had been listening to. Yes, I have to stop to change to a different station, but I can live with that. The position of the radio is now that I can still get my hand into the glovebox to get other things out, so it is not in the way.
