Can you join a route part way along?

Last time I was out with a preplanned route I had to detour to visit someone. Wanting to get back on the route I hoped it would take me to the nearest point but couldn't find a way to do that, you either have to know how to get to the route or navigate to the start of it.

Am I missing something or is there a way to just join a route at the nearest point?

just navigate towards it manually and it will pick it up as you get near. that's what i do anyway.

more tricky if you're a long way off. i suppose then you could do a new route ending at a suitable point on the original, but i've never needed to.

Assuming that you don't have auto recalculate switched on then zoom out until you can see the route and head in that direction until you get there... Route should then pick-up from that point.

It was when I was in a town I didn't know and could really have used the satnav to guide me out and onto the route, quite surprised there's no way to 'join at nearest point' or 'navigate to route' option.

Well that's progress for you I suppose. :augie

My "ancient" BMW Nav II running Mapsource CN V9, just recalculates any route from wherever it is. Even if the route guidance is stopped by me, I can travel any distance from where it last gave guidance or power the unit down yet it will recalculate the route from anywhere I happen to be if I tell it to resume. If I don't stop the route, it will just automatically recalculate no matter how far from the route i get.

Is the loss of this sort of functionality really the cost of clever graphics, bluetooth connectivity and some music storage? :nenau

No, you can run that way but some users seem to prefer to have recalculate turned off. Personally I prefer it on and have never seen the reason not to do so, it hasn't screwed my routes up other than get me back on track if I deviate off it... Horses for courses :nenau

I assume where you left the route was going to be at a different point to where you wanted to pick it back up? Otherwise just set a point at where you left it then route back to it IYKWIM

Yep, I had planned to leave from a friends' house but we ended up going out elsewhere first. Figured there would be a 'join route at nearest point' or 'navigate to route' but apparently not.

I guess I could expand the map out until I can see the route, zoom in and create a point near it then nav to that. Seems a bit longwinded though.

I don't find it very user friendly, or perhaps that should read idiot friendly :augie
