Hi All,

Quick question, hopefully one of you nice people may be able to answer.

I have my GSA arriving soon and whilst I do not envisage a problem straight away will need to set up a charger. I have a Optimate and would like to fit my permanent connectors to the Battery but wonder whether this charger will work with the Canbus technology or do I need to junk and fork out £60 for the BMW version!!!

Any comments greatly received.

or wire from battery to an an additional accessory socket on the beak & plug in there. that way you get an extra socket mounted conveniently, unlike the std. one under the seat.

Wire the loom supplied with your optimate straight to your battery, tie wrap the cables to the frame with the rubber booted connector in an easy to reach location

Brilliant idea, will do that later. :thumb2 :thumb2

So why does the manual tell you to disconnet the battery if charging this way, as in direct onto the terminals.
Is it just a case of don't believe everything you read.:nenau

Do a search. There's probably more written about 1200GS batteries & chargers than any other topic.

Oh, and I think the Optimate manual also mentions disconnecting the battery if it's deeply discharged.

There is (supposedly) a risk of putting too much current through the can-bus system, and frying a few widgets. No-one has ever posted that this has happened.

Anyone who says it's ok to use an Optimate without disconnecting first, is just voicing an opinion, even if he's your local dealer.

I have the BMW charger............

............... but use an Optimate wired directly to the battery :D :D :D :D

Power feed goes straight to the battery, does not affect the Canbus system,presto-hey :thumb

As he said. I've done this and i can honestly say that there is no issues with canbus when doing it like this.
