I Hear lots of talk about the Canbus GPS feed located by the headstock? Anybody got any pictures showing me where to look???

I've done a search on here, and the are zillions of posts talking about it but no pictures (that I could find)

Cheers !

Its around the wiring cluster on the inside of the radiator at the top. mine was tie wrapped to the wiring loom

No pics, but if you look up from the right hand side of the bike just above and behind the oil cooler and attached to the sub frame for the clocks and screen you should see a small grey or White multi way connector with about 5 (i think) little rectangular electrical slots/ connectors. That's it. You need a special cable. I got mine from nippy Normans.

What year bike? Pre 2008 near headstock whilst on later ones it's behind oil cooler

If you want one of those leads, I have a spare one for a tenner. Just pm me if you want it.

Sent from SYDland......

Thanks all its a 2006 MY.. And the GPS I hope to buy has the canbus lead!!

There's a few photos in the "motorcycle info pages" of the plug. Mine was exactly where everyone said it would be, a spare socket in the loom at the headstock, with a dummy cover. Pulled the cover off, plugged in my GPS lead and bingo. If you weren't so far away Id come over and show you. :D

Here you go The picture shows the left hand side of the bike as you sit on it The socket has a blanking plug fitted which will be a tight fit
(This information is for bikes prior to 2008)

So, when you turn the ignition off how long does the GPS stay powered?

On mine the bike power is cut off in appx 30 secs but there is the option to use the sat nav's internal battery if stopping for fuel etc

The reason i ask is that I have connected my Daylight Running Lights through this connector. Drawing a total of 1.3A all works well 'cept it takes 20mins before they power off! Some say the ZFE senses a threshold draw to allow for GPS operation with the engine off while others claim this threshold is set to allow the ancillary sockets (same circuit) to similarly power a 12v compressor ..... does anyone know for sure?

so its staying now?,morroco?

Time is my issue, I get two trips a year, but my max time away each trip is 5 days... (Family/work commitments) Normally Wednesday through Sunday..the banker is the Harley trip in May leaving my GS trip normally for September...

I feel Morroco will need more time then I have... Would be happy to do Bardenas again as it was a funky place... Or the Picos.. Or N260 .... Just feel that the Pyranees are a great 5 day destination...

IMHO much simpler to just go straight to the battery for GPS feed.:rob

Seriously,
How can it be simpler than having a designated plug near where you are putting the Sat nav, which turns on and off with the ignition.
