I am aiming to fit a TomTom Rider 5 shortly but I cannot locate the canbus lead for hard wiring to the sat nav unit. I've read through the Haynes manual but I'm none the wiser. Can anyone help me please?

its situated between your yolk and the end of the petrol tank, should be zip tied to the wire harness.

As above on left side as you sit on the bike The socket has a black plug to seal it

Thanks again Bisbee, but I am now confused. :blast Prior to reading your post and link, I telephoned Bahnstormers in Alton ( my nearest BMW Motorrad dealers) to enquire if they had the lead in stock I needed for a canbus to TomTom connection. However I was advised not to hard wire it this way as I would kill the battery but hardwire direct to the battery with a fused link. Seems to me conflicting advice?

The problem that they appear to have in mind is that some Satnav dock/cradles continue to draw enough power (even when the Satnav is not present) to fool the Canbus electronics to stay "powered up" (same trick is used by the official BMW battery charger). In this situation, the battery would indeed be flattened over a period of time. However, the TomTom Rider dock doesn't do this (I think it's only a problem with some garmin cradles).

i used the lead from nippy normans,
to power my tom tom rider 5, no issues at all
has never drained the battery:aidan

Thanks Bisbee and Robbie, your comments are good enough for me - I shall go down the canbus route with some confidence now. :thumb2
