Hi folks,

I'm due to collect my GSA in about 6 days and have ordered the CANBus Zumo cable from Touratech. I have searched and gone through the threads about powering the Zumo and it sounds like the CANBus socket I need is on the right side near the headstock somewhere?

Will I have to take bits off my bike to get to this socket?

Assuming I can find it OK, I assume I just plug it in, secure with cable ties every so often and job done?

If I do have to remove bits of bike, are the necessary tools in the BMW toolkit or do I have to upgrade my own toolkit first :-)

Thanks,

Lanky

You'll find the socket taped under the oil cooler on the 2008 GSA, it's on the right side of the GS version only.

You won't need to remove any bodywork to get at it but as far as upgrading your tool kit goes if you don't have any Torx keys or sockets I'd recommend getting some as the BMW uses a lot of Torx bolts and screws.

Enjoy the new bike. :thumb

That's good to know, thanks for the help. Glad I don't have to remove anything to get at it.

I think I'll be getting the Halfords Pro 150-pc set this w/e, it should come with enough Torx bits and pieces and it's half price now.

Right, this canbus socket then, I think I *might* have found it but just want to check before I start messing around with it.

If I look under the front beak, straight up towards the bottom of the cooler, I can see a black cylindrical thing taped in place. It looks like it has a cover or a fake plug in it because I can't see/feel into the recess of the socket itself.

Does that sound familiar to anyone that's used it?

I guess if it is then I have to take out/off a cover or dummy plug. I have tried pulling it out but not had any luck so far and didn't want to break anything, so I thought I'd check before I get really mean with it...
Is there a catch or something I have to press in before I can take it off?

Sounds very much like it.

Look at the male plug that you intend to plug into it. It will become clear how the two are held together.

If you do not have a male plug to compare.....why are you taking the blank off in the first place?

I do have the plug (using the TouraTech cable) but not with me now.
I was just examining the socket ready for when I do get around to installing my GPS.

I'll take another look tonight and see if it becomes clearer.

Yes, that sounds like it, it does have a cover on it, if I remember correctly there is a small tab/lever arrangement towards the rear of the plug, on the side, that you need to press (as you pull on the cover) to release it.

If you mean this thing then yes that is it
