After much research, i found out the canbus socket under the beak will put out a maximum of 5 amps (at 12 volts, obviously). So when i fitted a sat nav on my bike i also powered my starcom system from the same point. This draws aprox 3.5 amps with the volume turned way,way up and the garmin working. With the obvious benefit of power being dropped when turned off. RESULT.:clap.

Or you could have powered your Starcom direct from the battery (as per the instructions) as it only powers up when the headset is plugged in :nenau

Sorry to ask astupid question, but can i power my autocom super pro automatic directly from the battery, instructions state otherwise but has anyone done it? and are there any issues, i have a 2010 12gsa?

Powering Autocom from battery !

You can, but be warned....Did that in the past and nearly fried the autocom as it is permanetly powered up.
If you can take the positive feed from the back of the auxillary power socket under the seat and the Autocom earth back to battery. You can buy an extention lead from BMW if you do not want to cut into the power socket.
I can take some pice if you want,

Nigel

Thanks for that Nige, ill have a look over the weekend and maybe get back to you for piccies if i have any issues:thumb

Use the feed from either the aux or satnav socket to switch a relay and then take a feed straight from the battery to a screw connection block via the relay. You now have a switchable power supply that is not limited to 5 amps.

I use this to power my heated jacket which needs more than 5 amps, satnav, Autocom and beak mounted power socket. The socket has been used for tyre pump, mains inverter etc. which all need more than the standard power socket delivers.

Just remember to correctly fuse each item connected and don't run high load items for too long without the engine running!!
