Hi all,

well, finally sold the Harley! now i have been looking at 1200gs or 800gs for a while. i don't think i can afford a 1200gsa.

need some help in deciding which one to get. ridden them both but still can't decide.

going to be used round london, short journeys but also long rides out and some touring. will not be taking a pillion so I know that either bike will be more than capable.
the bike is not going to go off roading (except gravel path to a campsite or something similar)

still cannot decide which to get. i am not going to get 1150 gs though.

look forward to your help.

tricky.

Welcome along, I have a 650GS so unable to help with your dilema i'm afraid......:augie

Hi, welcome to the forums

You need an F800, F800, F800, F800, F800, F800, F800, F800...you do, you really do...!!!!!! :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

I rode both back to back and I can honestly say that if you're not taking a pillion then go for the 800.... i went for a 1200 adv but thats another story :augie

thank you all for your replies.

well, 1200 gs it is! will collect saturday. took both + gsa out today for further testing and the 1200 had the edge for longer distances which should suit me on my round britain trip in a few weeks (if anyone wants to join in you are welcome)

i found that the 800 weaved around a bit at motorway speed.

then again i took a gsa out and ended up in brighton! can't afford the adventure though and probably too big in london so the 1200 it is.

thank you all again

I test rode both back to back, 800 bit uninspiring and bland 1200 felt very stable and rock solid very good brakes,
Bought an 1150 even better than the pair of them :augie

well strange things happen don't they! it turns out that I had a nagging feeling about the 1200gs and bought a gs adventure for the same price, same year!

much happier.

I would have started with a good second hand GS1150 and run it for a year or two.

But good luck with the 1200.

Buy the older tin tank gs1150,but leave plenty of time to get anywhere as they're heavy old slow clunkers, just like your old hardly!

Now i know why i went for the adventure.

380 miles to a tank fully laden!

1800 miles in 6 days up and around Jockland and it was fantastic. even though I got drenched every day it was brill.

might just pop over to Normandy this B/H w/end.

why.... because I can!

or the BMW club national rally at Framlingham.

Welcome Tricky,

I have the F800...i love it to bits...very nippy and comfoy on a run...It is a crowd stopper and you will get asked loads of questions wherever you go.

All the best,
Morticia:)

seems you have already decided, so why ask?:nenau

good money would have been in the 11xx direction for your first GS, ahh well you live and learn i guess.

happy and safe riding:thumb2
