Can't look at 'for sale' threads...

I'm pissing myself too. Difference is that I'm laughing at those who have missed the bargains to be had for a paltry 12 quid. :D

Best buy on here in the last few years was the lucky git who got a Rolex Explorer for £2000.
I so wish I'd had the money free that day :(

So its a privilege to see the adverts, and thats what your subs get you, anyone advertising a bike on here is offering a special price just because its being advertised to like minded adventure bikers.

A likely story.... :blagblah, I would wager that any bike advertised on here is at a premium to one of similar spec on autotrader at a cheaper price.

I've seen forums make you join to advertise, and that's fair enough, but i guess that the adventure bandwagon has no limits...

Its all good.

RBW.

Why are you so narrow minded :D It's not just the bikes. It's all the overpriced cars, i-phones, i-pods, motorcycle clothing, bags, boots, levis, laptops, widescreen tv's, cameras.. - you get the idea....... although, no, actually you don't :D

(jumping onto the tail end of the thread so hopefully not covering too much of the same ground)

Don't forget the discount at Cotswold camping - I've saved my subs for the next 4 renewals on that one alone this year.

The primary method of funding the forum is through subs, so there has to be an incentive to get people to pay up, or there would be no server and no Internet connection. The BHT has decided that one of the incentives is getting access to the FS&W, so what's the point of arguing?

But then again, there are a lot of people who want something for nothing and they are the same sort of people who would happily go into their newsagents and read the free ads without actually buying the paper.

I'll take up that bet - how about £12?

Do you think that anyone is going to get away with selling a shonker on here? People in here know their bikes and are likely to point out something that is overpriced very quickly. The odd duffer does slip through, but they are the exception not the norm. The same goes for other kit - if you price something up wrongly, people will state that is the case on the thread and it gets sorted.

Anyway, I'm off to another thread - happy trolling.

Sold !

Shonker is one thing, overpriced is another. No contact details, but put up details of a bike advertised on here, and I'll find at least two of better value (e.g. mileage, condition, price, number of owners).

Then you had better go there .... you're getting very tiresome

If you look carefully at the highlighting in my post you will note that I was taking issue with you saying that ANY bike in the FS&W will be selling at a premium.

Anyway, here's one for you to stick in your pipe and smoke - http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321160

It's only fair to show the tightwad the bike.....after all, he's risen to the challenge of finding two more that are better and cheaper than any advertised in one of the sections he can't see :thumb2

So over to you, 'RBW'.....

"put up details of a bike advertised on here, and I'll find at least two of better value (e.g. mileage, condition, price, number of owners)."

:popcorn

Just for clarity, this bike was the second on the list of bikes for sale, it took me 10s to find it and another couple of minutes checking the eBlag classifieds.

Let me know how long it takes you to beat the price on this bike by a 'premium'* amount, and links to scammers won't count :blast.

* You accused the FS&W section of charging premium prices, so it's only fair that you prove it. I'm open to discussion on the value of 'premium', but just demonstrating a sense of humour or providing a signed certificate from the 3 ghosts of Christmas would help.

** Why the feck am I pandering to this troll???

Hey, that's good value, happy to admit it, and yes it was a bit of a troll post, but I use a number of sites and haven't come across one that charges for viewing fs ads.

In fact is that still for sale ? Good value for £2212.

I wont critique the selection of bike, as I didn't specify it should be something widely available, but even so, for £2200, I'd buy that.

Cheers.

Chances are, those 'other sites' will be over populated with commercial advertising from bizarre and often un-related people, or will sell details on to list farmers.

Yes, we do have adverts in the side panel, and in the header on the main page, but they're pretty unobtrusive and we know for a fact that they are well vetted......one of them was replaced by an 'anti' equivalent in fact, when that particular company shafted the boss :augie

The fact is, a big active site has significant costs.
This one survives through a subscription system, and most people who subscribe do so year after year, having found it's well worth it :thumb2

If you don't want to, then don't......simple really :D

Fair enough, some good points, and I'm big enough to admit when I'm in the wrong.

Subs paid, and Steptoe Pm'd to see if the bike is still available.

I have my thick skin on, so awaiting incoming :beerjug: .

What a coincidence! The one bike offered up as an example............... you're interested in :augie

Will keep an eye out for it on ebay..................

Al, no, not a trader, dont have a bike at moment, last bike was a GSXR 1000 K7 which I sold 3 years ago, and now want something I can run and maintain myself.

In the past I have had a 2002 Fazer 1000 which I did 30K on in 3 years, a 2005 R6 which I did just over 30K on in 3 years, and the GSXR which I sold after a year with about 12K on as wanted a break from bikes.

The only criteria I have set myself is that it cant be an in-line 4 litre bike, and has a bit of character.

I could buy a new one outright to be honest, but don't really fancy sinking that kind of money into a bike at the moment, just in case things go south workwise.

Also, I'd like to get my hands a little dirtier in maintaining my bike.

RBW.

P.S. Actually its not strictly true that I dont have a bike, I brought my first scooter earlier this year (Honda SH125i) just for messing about locally and I love it.

I stand corrected, then......... :)

I would reckon that a 4 ltr bike would have plenty character, though :nenau
