Spotted on of these for sale locally , 2003 and 55k miles with full original luggage for £3k. Am tempted but does anyone on here have knowledge of these before I buy?

I had one. Not the rally raid. Very good bike. Mine was a bit newer than that. Never had any trouble with it. Would I have another? Not really but for 3000 you can’t go wrong

I had a Caponord ETV1000, a very underestimated bike. A stonking engine with lots of grunt, and handles well. Stainless exhaust, and very well thought out maintenance pluses including a coolant level that you can check at a glance.

Weak points are the electrics, especially the coils. I added a Hyperpro rear spring and changed the front sprocket to 1 tooth bigger (from memory). I think I had Conti Trails on it which seemed to suit it.

I swapped it for a Blackbird before I moved to France, primarily because of scarcity of dealers and spares at that time.. it was quicker to buy spares from the USA than my main dealer 20 mins away.

I almost bought another instead of the RT, but there was no service history with it. There is, or was, a very active Owners Club online.

It's certainly a very well respected engine, one of the best by all accounts.

I think if the condition's good £3k might be fair, but for a 22 year old bike with 55k miles and a sketchy parts back-up, it's not a give-away. Only my opinion.

Do they have a 'big' service due at any point?

That Rotax Mille engine is fantastic IMHO 👌. RSVR's of the same vintage go for similar money (probably a lot less miles though) and their value is starting to increase

Had one I bought off e bay up north. Stocking engine. Oodles of torque. Alarm kept going off so I sold it. But v comfy. Punch engine

Stonking engine (a mile lump) but the price seems a tad over, especially for the high mileage. I wouldn't pay £3K for one unless very tidy with under 30K miles but I guess rarity adds value as these are like hen's lips to source now. At that mileage, I'd be asking questions about the suspension, especially the linkages, and querying the service history to make sure all valve check intervals have been observed.
