I have changed cars. Gone from a Landcruiser to a Civic. The Civic is half the price of the Landcruiser, so much less car to insure.

A Plan came up with £365

Carole Nash came up with £445

Direct line...................... £201.

I then asked for the legal protection to be taken off, and it dropped to £179.00.

This is comp for me and the other half with commuting, no break down cover, legal cover or protected bonus, but a hire car if ours is undrivable.

How can the prices be so different ?
Are they trying to rip us off ?

Direct line were my existing insurer, and I always ring round to make sure they are competitive.

Would you be happier if they were all priced at £445?

Stop moaning that someone has been dim enough to insure you for under 50p a day. It will cost you nine times more to have a pint at Waterloo and nearly as much to have a piss afterwards.

Well Post #2 was a better reply than post #3.

But then I suspect that post #2 wasn't written by such a condescending git.

As for a pint or piss in Waterloo.................. I do try my utmost not to enter London.

To many assholes.

Two years ago I got rid of my M plate Corrado (a toy that did less than 2500 miles per year) , it was classed as a group 20 and insured with Lloyds on an AEGAS policy, changed it for a 54 plate POLO GT TDI (group 13) and get told by Lloyds that the insurer will not cover the Polo as it too high a risk group ?

Had to cancel the policy (for a fee) so shopped around and went to Swinton and the policy was issued by lo and behold with AEGAS, this year have been shopping around and Lloyds are offering a policy with them on the Polo again with AEGAS .

Queried the reason why they wouldn't insure the car 23 months ago as it was too high a risk to be told ' never heard of that one'

They are a law unto themselves

At the risk of being dubbed condescending, do you not realise that the insurance companies are in business to make as much profit as they can - that's the whole reason they exist. In the event that potential customers don't shop around then the insurers will make their premiums as high as they think they can get away with. I can't quite understand your surprise at this.

Part of the reason for the disparity in price between the Landcruiser and the Civic may be down to the fact that there are many more boy racers in Civics than there are in Landcruisers - it's all about risk

Its called a market. Vendors attempt to sell things for the price they think the market will bear. If you were selling your bike, would you sell it for less than you thought you could?

Though daft enough to call it a rip-off, at least you were smart enough to take advantage of the market and choose the cover that suited you best.

However, since this was the cheapest quote, we can expect a subsequent post about how poor the claims service was or how expensive it is to change address.

Nah, mate. Carole Nash, sought to rip him off at a price of £445. Fuckers. Then another fucker sought to rip him off again but for a bit less than the bikers' favourite. Then another fucker added to the pool of rip off artists by coming in at half the rip off off Carole but this rip off disguised a load of shit that no right thinking person would want; shite like breakdown cover, legal expenses and a protection of the no claims bonus. They can fuck right off with that shit and there'll be a saving of £22. Why everyone couldn't be at £170 or at £445 from the start and save everyone a fucking waste of time is a disgrace and something should be done about it. I mean, if you go to a builder for a price, he'll always quote the minimum figure imaginable in order to please you, as will his competitor and that competitor's competitor and they will always be the same minimum price and it's fucking great. Oh, and they'll always call you back and you won't ever have to wait for them to turn up either.

You want an example of price variation try double glazing. Bloody rip off merchants out to rip us all off and you can't even omit breakdown, legal cover and no claims bonus.
Fortunately due to prices being so different i didn't have to pay the mega expensive rip off granny robbing bastard business but chose the cheaper rip off merchant.

My new windows now leak and the door won't close and the cheap company has now disappeared but i saved 18 grotes and put one over the man. .

.

I'll be the judge of that.... :D

As rip offs go, with double glazing at least you can see through it :D

Only if you have a decent window cleaner.

Take care as some will charge an exorbitant amount and use the time to case your joint. Fuckers they are.

There should be a clearly defined tariff: Number of windows X working height, with easy to understand adjustments for sash, bi-fold, conservatory, stained or leaded, inside and out. I blame the EU and Mrs Thatcher for liberalising the Window Cleaning Trade; it was so much better when it was controlled by the Worshipful Company of Window Cleaners, with a proud history stretching back to 1311.

Well my car insurance is up for renewal and compare the market gets me prices from between £383 to £10,963.91, do you think the £10K quote don't really want my business? Perhaps the £2K excess should have given me a clue!!

£383?

You are being ripped-off and robbed. £179 is the very maximum you should ever pay and that includes your wife!

I recently had a very pleasant experience with car insurance.....

Wife (really) smacked our car into another (Wife's fault.....but even now won't accept it) Other car written off, ours picks up £2K of damage.....no one hurt.

We had protected no claims but I thought that it was unlikely to be THAT simple.

Renewal arrives last month....no 'hit'....we paid more or less what we paid last year.

AND....They were easy to deal with....fixed our car up in no time....and third party dealt with promptly.....ZERO problems with the whole thing.

Cheers..........AGEAS !!......:clap

Strange that , I renewed a car insurance today with AEGAS and as usual took out protected no claims discount only to be told by the broker that PNCD no longer means that if you have a claim your premiums will not go up.

Now if you have PNCD and are involved in a claim whether it be your fault or if you are an innocent third party (and the other insurer pays out in full) you automatically flag up as a risk to the insurance industry .

Because of PNCD you will retain your 9 years, 60% or whatever BUT your insurance is likely to go up .

ie insurance quote pre accident £1000 and you have 60% PNCD , you will pay £400 , post accident you keep your 60% PNCD but ( the insurers may decide it ) will be applied to your recalculated renewal quote of for example £2000 so you will be paying £800

I don't doubt a word of what you are saying but here is what happened to us....

08/07/2015.....Paid premium of £189.75.

14/02/2016....Accident, wife's fault, total payout by Ageas £5281.17

11/07/2016....Paid renewal premium of £197.53. (Granted, it's gone up but less than eight quid.....I make it circa 4%)

All done through a broker.

Not sure if this has any relevance but both cars were insured by Ageas......:nenau

AND....For anyone wondering why our premiums are so low ??.....We are both pushing 60, we have never claimed on insurance before and a YO12 post code......:)

I have a 14 plate Civic insured via Liverpool Victoria
Me only driving
£10000 personal accident cover
Windscreen cover
guaranteed courtesy car
no claim discount guarantee @ £31.75 on premium
For £377.56
I have been with LV for a number of years now.
Is it worth changing every year? I dont know but having had them deal with a collision about five years ago no paper work involved as the other party took responsibility loan car was on my drive within two hours my car was repaired and on my drive ten days later so they are reliable.
Just have no negotiate the quote down every year but it works out 8-10 pounds increase every year cheap it aint but :nenau

To answer your question: It's all up to you.

If you are happy with LV, enjoyed the one experience of them dealing with a claim and you feel the premium / ease of renewal is reasonable, then stay.

If you ever want an alternative, your comparatively simple details and vehicle would be easy to pump into any or all of the 'Compare the market' type comparison web-based aggregators. Then use (or don't) what the alternative offers might be. You could even have a rant that you had been ripped-off for years.

Alternatively, just rant that it's all a fecking rip-off, that there should be no alternative choices at all and that if anyone is stupid enough to buy (or need) legal protection, they need killing.
