Carb balancing with mercury guages?

I've got a perfectly good set of Morgan mercury gauges
Can I use these on my 1150GS or do I really need to get hold of a Twinmax?

Believe me, and i've owned both, the mercury gauges are far better than a twin max.

The fact i still have the mercury gauges and the twin max is looong gone tells you what i think..

I use a set of mercury gauges which were originally bought for a CX500 I had in the 80's.

I am interested to know how accurate people can set them - mine are graduated in 1mm steps. The absolute best I can seem to balance the throttle bodies seems to be around 10mm between cylinders - the difficulty being that the means of adjustment (knurled cable adjuster and locknut) is basic in the extreme and is almost impossible to fine adjust.

I'll be needing the 3.5 oz pin hammer instead of the ball peen then?
And a spoon...

I guess I'll get so close and trust my ear... 10mm seems close enough, no?
