I am replacing a pair of rubber carb manifolds. I was advised by a bmw dealer (who were going to to the job) that the throttle will need resetting afterwards, then quoted me accordingly, adding at least half an hour to labour costs. is this right? and does anyone have any advice on the fitting of these so that I can do it myself.
Seems straight forward but those comments concerned me. Any answers?

thanks

If its a 1150 , to change the throttle body to head rubber mounts is quite easy, just put some WD 40 or similar on the threads of the screws of the band clamps before undoing , this will ease the job.

You will also need to loosen the clamps on the pipe from the air box and slide it backwards to remove throttle body.
There is an O ring on the throttle body to air box pipe, need to lube up to refit.

Should take about 15 /20 mins each side if you have a decent screwdriver and are gentle with the O ring.

It would be a good idea if you replace the stopper plug on the underside of the throttle body which blanks off the connection for
balancing, they always tend to split, its not worth having the TB's balanced if these leak

Balancing the TB's at this time would be a good idea.

You dont say why these are being replaced ?

they leak air - people overtighten them, once they leak, get new ones .

As your bike idles, spray WD40 ( or whatever), around the manifold/throttle body seal, if there's a change in tickover speed. New ones needed.

forgot to mention...

sorry should have said it's on an 1100gs. if that makes any difference?
either way thanks for the speedy response.

also...

being replaced as the old have cracks and are generally perished.
throttle response has been a bit erractic/sluggish too.
