Any recommendations? I've had an Arai Tour X 3 for the last few years. Fancy something lighter, Enduro style with a visor but don't want to break the bank!

I have an X-lite 551 too, and whilst it is an excellent lid, it's similar weight to an Arai. I have a carbon fibre Lazer MX style helmet that's incredibly light, but can't vouch for any other visor helmets.
Sorry

Funny! I'm just off to Helmetcity to check the same one out Tim!

Been to see the AGV AX-8 DS EVO at Helmet City. Nice helmet but they're getting the Carbon version in for me to try.

Ok, I need to try one but can you have the visor slightly open or is it either up or down?

Edit. I see there to plastic inserts, blue or red to allow different degrees of adjustment :)

AGV come up big on size - my Tour X 3 is a Large and snug but I'll need a Medium in the AX-8.

Uber baja....had two, gold stamped excellent helmet. It's the same are an Airoh or Acerbis but half the price.

I tried one of these - the reviews on Demon Tweeks said they were small, so go up a size, which I did, but christ I could barely get a XXL on over my ears - had to send it back!

Well perhaps at least not necessarily. Worth knowing this stuff anyway.

Seems the guy who wrote that article was later fired over the prospect of Arai & Shoei threatening to pull advertising from the magazine he was working for.

The case for polycarbonate over composite seems pretty strong, though I gather Snell updated their data in 2010, and I guess tech & materials are always evolving.

Key in all of it IMO is that Snell - a body whose accreditation all helmet manufacturers aspire to achieve (to ensure sales) - is effectively funded by the helmet industry.

Personally always been an Arai guy (all composite, AFAIK?), but this time round I'll be choosing a polycarbonate lid. Though IIRC, there's mention in that article of Schuberth performing similarly to the polycarbonate helmets (ie, better than the composite lids) despite it being composite, and the C3 is out there now in plain colours for under €400...
