Seems the guy who wrote that article was later fired over the prospect of Arai & Shoei threatening to pull advertising from the magazine he was working for.
The case for polycarbonate over composite seems pretty strong, though I gather Snell updated their data in 2010, and I guess tech & materials are always evolving.
Key in all of it IMO is that Snell - a body whose accreditation all helmet manufacturers aspire to achieve (to ensure sales) - is effectively funded by the helmet industry.
Personally always been an Arai guy (all composite, AFAIK?), but this time round I'll be choosing a polycarbonate lid. Though IIRC, there's mention in that article of Schuberth performing similarly to the polycarbonate helmets (ie, better than the composite lids) despite it being composite, and the C3 is out there now in plain colours for under €400...
