Hey guys, I've got some waterproof Sinisilo gear. It's got waterproof zips - basically rubberised so that when zipped the rubber sides press together and form a seal.

For some reason some of the zips are now coming together at an angle so they dont seal properly. I've tried silicon spray, but does anyone one have any other tips for sorting these kind of zips out or is that just the way it is with them???

Cheers Wapping, I'd thought about the diving side of things - I normally would use bees wax to lube the zips on my drysuit, I havent tried it yet on these though as they are plastic teeth rather than metal.

I'm pretty sure its all still waterproof, if only I can get the teeth to sit flat.

I think we've got some liquid drysuit lube here somewhere, I might give that a go

Hugely expensive IMO but you only need a drop and it's the dogs doo dahs on zips

When I used to scuba dive I used a silicone based stick lube so maybe you could try your local dive shop:nenau

Cheers guys, you got me thinking and it turns out I've still got both the silicon lube and a small pot of silicon grease for UW camera seals

both worked a treat to lube the zip, but it turned out that the zip itself must have been slightly faulty - I've given it a bit of a tweek with a pair of pliers and it seems to be running properly now

its a bit difficult to discribe without pics, but like a drysuit this zip would work properly when the rubber sides are pressed together, but instead the zip was biting at an angle - still pretty dry, but not actually working right

Anyway, all fixed and many thanks for the suggestions :)

I'm good John, i was actually just searching to put an apology on here. If as i had thought' "maybe John doesn't recall meeting me!".

Wouldn't of acted a twat too just anyone.

I'm alright bud, still thinking of moving from Midlands area down to Devizes/Wiltshire. I've been up to York on one ride-out with Adam & Lisa, they are good hearted people.

*Two thumbs up*

Hope to see you on a ride-out in better weather]

Hugely expensive because it's a chemically inert perfluorpolyether grease containing no hydrocarbons and is for use in high pressure high-oxygen environments or other systems with strong oxidisers since silicon based lubricants might blow up, or in extreme temperature ranges.

It's absolutely not required except in the above circumstances, so if you're using it on zips do yourself a favour and save a fortune; use beeswax or zip lube instead, which are better and cheaper in this a:thumb2pplication

The problem with waterproof zips is nobody cares for them.

Your typical 'happy go lucky' non waterproof zip is exposed, able to see the world go by, and can usually be in contact with the other zips on your garment.

Waterproof zips however, usually live under a flap, alone, and in darkness. Some of them live on garments which are only used in bad weather. No continental sunshine for these guys. Stuffed in a pannier with the knowledge that sunny continental europe is outside, and the only chance they have of seeing it is for a brief moment, in the rain before the flap is studded on top of them.

Most waterproof zips are fairly depressed. Some just accept it, but some get aggressive and refuse to cooperate. 'feck you pal, your getting wet today. I'm refusing to connect'.

They often dream about being reincarnated as a 'wet suit' zip. Proudly stitched on the surface of the garment, either left on a beach watching the bikini clad girls go by, or seeing the wonders of the deep blue sea when in use.

Liquid Lan, Your zips have obviously given up on life. Leave them outside on the next sunny day. You never know. It might cheer them up.

Are you sure its just my zips that arent getting enough sunlight ;)

I never thought of it that way, but these zips are dirty feckers, they get out in the winters in all weathers and love getting caked in mud... maybe the ones that dont work now have just come out of the closet and decided they dont like that kind of dirty life any more...????

I could re-read that all day long, love it. Clean concise informed
