I have just received my insurance renewal quote through.

£1,292 with a 700 excess.

Letter dated 26th June received 3 July for (auto) renewal on 16th July.

Insurance for two bikes ktm 1190 and Honda valk 1500.

This quote is over double I paid last year.

They then reduced the quote to £800 on the after doing me a favour !

They didn't get why I was so angry that they were taking the piss. I also have three bikes on a classic insurance with them.

The guy on the phone wouldn't cancel the auto renewal and kept trying to 'get me a better quote'. His final gambit being so how much do you want to pay.

Had to tell him five times to confirm that the auto renewal had been stopped.

He kept blaming the broker, and the computer.

they kept saying to me 'how much do you want to pay' wtf..i said your cheapest price:blast shite outfit-went onto comparethemarket and saved £400 by insuring separate with zero no claims on 2 of my 3 bikes

I totally agree. I have been with CN for years but after the games I had to
Play last year vowed I would not stay this year. My renewal came through 20% higher than last year on auto renewal and when I phoned to stop renewal the guy started the games again and took a lot of very firm instruction from me to stop the game and just cancel the renewal . Just for everyone's benefit I got a cracking deal for 2 bikes, one being a classic, from LV . Pays to shop around , the difference in quotes was quite amazing .

My renewal came through last week, 6 wheel policy and the renewal letter says quite clearly there is NO automatic renewal. Policyholder has to confirm renewal is required, which I duly did and saved a further £35. Can't understand why bandit and rodsharp have been treated differently.

None of my renewals with CN have ever been automatic and in fact one year i was late in renewing and the policy was cancelled.

I've had a 28 day reminder from Carole Nash that my policy is due, and a premium quoted saying I don't need to do anything and it will auto renew.

The renewal is £145 more than running a quote through the usual comparison sites with MCE appearing to offer the best premium.

They lost me as a customer come renewal when I switched to the RT, there was no increase in premium over the GS but they levied a £50 Admin fee to do the change of vehicle, then tried to sell me helmet cover, and a policy to pay the excess (insurance for insurance ?)

Pretty certain now I'm gone come renewal and will be shopping around, gone are the days when you could drop Malcolm Nash a line and he'd sort a deal :)

They were outstanding previously, but this year my personal experience with them has changed.

I had the same. I was a day late calling them and they cancelled the policy and doubled the new premium as i was now "a new customer" ! I moved my business elsewhere.

A great tip that my wife uses to get the premium down if it's gone up. Go online and apply for a quote as a new customer with your current insurer, invariably it will be lower than your renewal quote, phone the slimy bastids up and they usually match it.:aidan

They heard about your crash, last weekend:D

Seriously my renewal was this week and roughly the price was the same as last year with CN, within £15 or so and that was for 5 bikes and was no where near your price, not even a third of it

You must have a crap postcode or no garage

Rob you of £50 admin fee, I had to pay them £40 last week to cancel a policy that didn't end till November 2015.

Complaining re a bunch of criminals .... with the user name 'bandit' :blast

.... and the avatar of a pirate :liv

We all have differing experiences of CN. I'd tried a number of compare sites and had very different quotes from CN, I required a policy including European Breakdown cover, not many include this, Although their combined policy for two bikes wasn't I considered value for money, bearing in mind you can lose the NCB on one bike, I quoted the cheapest compare site price, I omitted to mention didn't include the same cover, and taking 20 minutes of my precious time, on the phone and had to listen to their terms & conditions etc and wait whilst "I will have to speak to the underwriters sir". I made a saving of £48 and a policy to suit my needs.

I used to go through the same rigmarole ever year with them, get a renewal quote in (always higher than last years), go online as a new customer for a quote (always lower tan the renewal) and cancel the existing policy for the new quote.
They would never match the new quote as an existing policy holder, so always cancelled old and took out new.
(Only stayed with them for the BKDN cover).

Not referring to the OP's price of £1200

But why is price the deciding factor with insurance?

Surely it's the quality of cover, the quality of service, the excess (don't forget that nugget) and the reputation to sort things out, coupled with price................ that should be the deciding factor

I had reason to use CN's breakdown service, 2-3 weeks ago to bring me 210 miles home

A more excellent response and service I couldn't have wished for, from CN

The used common sense and everything was made simple

Talking to the recovery driver, the charge for this recovery would be in the region of £1000, for the complete return journey, so not inconsequential to CN

Top class service and last week I renewed with CN, because their service has always been no fuss and 1st class, with me and many others I know

Similarly another GS rider, on the same trip..... had a problem with his older 12GS, on BMW's extended warranty

He was recovered 100 miles to a BMW dealer in Glasgow, loaned a Skoda car to keep his weekend on track and he drove the car home to London

His bike was fixed in Glasgow, then delivered to his home in London

Think of the cost of that little lot, not bad for a BMW extended warranty costing just £350 per year - for service like that home and abroad

People moan about cost, all the time - perhaps they should pay their own recovery costs and see how they perceive value v cost, then:augie

Yep. Cost is never the over riding feature for me as i will pay more for what i perceive to be a better quality service.

How much do you want to pay?
... is a line i'd expect from a dealer selling a Bike and wanting to haggle.
NOT from a business that employees an Actuary.
Definition of actuary;
a person who compiles and analyses statistics and uses them to calculate insurance risks and premiums.

The keyword being calculate.

How can the insewerance industry be taken seriously when it is a game of horse trading and haggling to get the best deal?

I agree with the whole cost service thing. I was happy to go with carol Nash last year. I am complaining about what i see is sharp practice of hiking up the premium for no apparent reason, maybe in the hope I will just let it auto renew , and then practically admitting it (without admitting it) by immediately knocking off £500.00. I also objected to there attitude of doing me a favour. We all know this goes on. I just don't get why they see fit to piss me off. I would have accepted a reasonable renewal quote, now I will be shopping around.
