Sounds like some real dodgy spanner work been done here.
You used a ground down 17mm socket for a wheel spacer,then you say you packed the rear wheel bolts out with washers.Why not use the spacer from the S which goes straight on and 55mm bolts from the S which are the correct length and available for peanuts from bmw bike breakers.I would definetly keep an eye your back wheel or get the proper bolts.I would not want to a thread titled MY BACK WHEEL FELL OFF TODAY.Andy

The bmw spacer puts the wheel out of line, the large flat washers used on the wheel bolts fit perfectly and in 6000 miles have not loosened
The ground down socket is a perfect size and suitable material to use for this application. It has been used for about 10000 miles and shows no ill effects
May sound dodgy, but both are sound engineering solutions

Prop,yes they are the same as mine and I love them,will they not fit the 1200? I see in the pics that it has fat bars.Are they the bmw bendy elastic bars or are they proper twinwall ali ones?.Andy

I forgot to say , if you are trying to fit a front 10 spoke wheel without a speedo drive, you will have to machine or file about a quarter of an inch from the boss on the speedo drive side. if you dont it comes in contact with the lug on the forks which is for locating the speedometer drive

Thanks for all your input regarding the cast wheel fitting info. One question, if I may...
What do you mean by the 'boss' on the speedo drive side ?.
When I did my dummy fit-up of my front wheel the other night, it appeared to me that the wheel was in it's central position when the LHS 'hub' of the wheel was almost touching the speedo-drive locating lug. (i.e. with the discs located centrally within the caliper jaws). From your pictures, it appears that the LHS wheel hub is quite some distance from the lug in question. (By the way, the front wheel I am using is from a K1200RS).

PS. Regarding the rear wheel, I bought a used rear disc & carrier from a K1200RS from motorworks (as you mentioned earlier). However, I am still not clear whether I should fit the 2mm spacer between the wheel and the rear carrier. The spacer I am referring to is like a large washer with the 4 bolt holes drilled through it).

LHS of front wheel from K1200. I assume the spacer you made from the 17mm socket goes in the centre and meets with the inner bearing race ?. Do I need anything else in order to make this wheel fit safely, such as seals etc ?

I believe the spacer in the back wheel is fitted to some and not others. It is probably used to make up for tolerances in assembly of swingarm. assemble it without and check wheel alignment.
Anyone who knows otherwise, please comment.

You are correct about where the front spacer goes. The socket I used fitted snugly against the bearing inner race, but the outside diameter was not enough to fill the hole in the oil seal, hence my usage of the washing machine one which I had available and fitted perfectly.

The boss I refer to is indeed that bit with the seal in it in your second photograph. On mine it hit the speedo drive peg thing on the forks. The face which the seal sits in had to be filed back about a quarter of an inch. Took me 4 hours with a small file!!

Fitted my cast wheels

Fitted my wheels last night. These are from a K1200 RS. Am very happy with the results. Need the weather to improve so I can scrub the tyres and new front sdiscs in properly.

Reason seat is wrinkled is cos I re-covered it myself. The original had become all smooth and shiny and I kept slipping around on it (under braking).
If the truth be known, I went and got some stretchy PVC/leather stuff and stretched it all over, and used staples to secure it in place. I was covered in sweat by the time I had finished and it was quite painful to do but very very satisfying in the end fnarr fnarr

Fergus & Stef, I'm sure you can buy seat coverings from your BWM dealer. They also come up on eBay sometimes & are made from the original material - cut to shape & ready to fit.

BWM dealer ? need to investigate that. I contacted a seat cover seller on eBay, but he only does them for Jap bikes.
