Casr Wheel(s) Conversion

What is the purpose of trying to modify a good but admitidly large off-road bike.
The BMW wheels have got the advantage of being tubeless and flexible due to their spokes. Are we trying to look like the mammouth of super moto.
Unless I am greatly confused I do not yet know of a works rally whoever it might shall be running cast wheels in the desert.

Fitted GS Ohlins and Alloy wheels to GSA this morning, Ohlins and rear wheel bolted straight in no problem. Don't know which model wheels are from but it appears that front may have been machined too accept speedo drive, needs spacing washer between drive and fork leg .

I think nearest equivalent is 1100S - if there is a part no on wheel let me have it and maybe I can find out.

Paragon, Part no's appear to be-

HL 2037 1g Checked my Wife's R1150R and it's HL 2051 3

It you could find out it would be a big help, have a friend who has GS and R1100S(Hadrian) and I could try bits from his Bike rather than make spacer. I'll ask him to check his wheels for part no's next time he's home,

Thanks MM

Metal Man,

The Speedo drive off the GS is different to the one that fits the Alloys, say off the R1150r/rt.......the latter is slightly wider, this could be your problem.

Besides, you need the latter to correct the reading due to the smaller rolling Radius of the 17" wheel...... Sorry if 'teaching to suck eggs' etc..............

Sorry MetalMan - I have probably confused you completely

You need to give me the other number on your front wheel

something like

2. 335.507

and also give me the number of the rear

Paragon, Rear wheel number is 2331 357 which is the same as my Wife's R1150R.
Front wheel number is 2335 050 or 2335 060 can't make out second last digit, wife's front wheel no. is 2335 507.
I have the speedo drive for 17" wheel and it's the same size as original. Didn't know at the time but spacer was sent with wheels but looks like it got lost in the boot of friends Car. If you could measure spacer you rec'd in kit I can get one made no problem,
Thanks for the help.

Coolcarbon, No problem I appreciate any advice given, it's good to get such support from other enthusiasts.

Stef, Bike in background is my Wife's R1150R in the Dakar Yellow colour option, it's going shortly as she get's Yellow GS1200 around 8th April,

Cheers MM

It's a Bike specific Givi with Black screen, had to get it painted as not available in yellow.

Dave, The Hub centre on my alloys is slightly smaller than original spoked wheels so I need additional spacer/washer to fit between speedo drive/fork leg on l/h side to give clearance between disc and fork leg. Spacer was in kit but was lost in transit. Made 3mm spacer and it appears fine but would prefer to know exact size of original for peace of mind,

no luck with the front wheel ID - I have all the part nos to 2002 - but cannot find it

My spacer is for the rear
(not much too it in terms of thickness)

But it looks as though you have got it sorted

Cheers

Paragon, Had various spacers made in 0.5mm increments so it's trial and error from there. Thanks for the help,
Cheers MM

Job sorted needed a 2.5 mm spacer which I fitted today, ran it up to 110 mph no problems. Can't wait to try it round the twisties :)

You won't be disappointed. The handing on my GS has been transformed since I put the new wheels and rubber on. Turns in quicker, holds a perfect line and grips superbly. What I notice now is that I need another 20 BHP :(
I have taken tight bends flat out in fifth since the conversion with full confidence. I would recommend this mod for anyone who likes to scratch on the twisties !
