Cast Wheel Conversion ....The Facts!

tyres

Hi Ferg, what tyres are you running onyour new wheels? I have just fitted PROPs old wheels to mine, they came with Avon pro extreme rain tyres which I will run till late spring, then it will be time for a change.Heres a photo of mine(taken with a £20 digi camera, excuse the quality).
Cheers Dave

Dave,

you realise if we get out for a ride at some point, that'll be two stealth black GS's to terrify the traffic :D

Ben.

Tyres

Dave

I have fitted Dunlop D208s (F's I think). I got them for €270 (euro) fitted. Very happy with that. Rear is a 180/55/17, front 120/70/17. They heat up very quickly and give excellent grip. They are starting to wear a bit round the edges now - thats down to my riding 'technique' :D

Looks well Dave, Photo can't have been taken in Gateshead as they haven't lifted your block paving ;)

I've had cast R1100RS wheels on my 1100GS and 1100S wheels on my 1150, but I haven't got much to add to this thread...except that I think I was the first!! (Did my 1100 in...oo..about '96 I think.)

Oh, one other thing...did anyone else mention this? Stick a 190 on the back - it looks brilliant. Somebody bunged me a part worn 190 section 207 GP off a race bike, complete with molten rubber bits flying off the edge, and it fitted....just! I was worried it would make the steering a touch slow, but it didn't. Made for an interestingly lively ride...the GP has very flexible sidewalls for racers to get maximum feedback. When it wore out I replaced it with a 207RR, my all time favourite tyre, also a 190. Go to track days and strut your stuff in the fast session....it makes all the R1 riders really sick.

It's obvious that the new black... is erm... black!

Impossible to deny that they look the best in black!

I reckon we need to arrange our own black bomber only rally :D

Cheers,

Ben

PS Sheeeit they look fantastic with those cast wheels! I promised myself I would keep the GS stock. But already I'm drawing up my list.....

Another Black one for the Group.

testing me new wheels

Hi MM only done 20 miles so far ,feels great so far. unable to ride at the moment as I had surgery to my butt at christmas and when I did those 20 miles I opened my wound up, the nurse flipped and has grounded me!
I think we will have to get the black touch up paint and some boot polish out to make yours a "proper black one"
Catch you later
Dave the baldy skint plumber

IMHO there is only one fact - A GS on cast wheels looks fekin sh1te!

I beg to differ Andy.! Its the future, look at the 1200

Cheers Dave

Andy,

Don't beat about the Bush.......Tell us what you really think....:D

It wouldn't do for us all to be the same now would It...Each to their own..........

CC

Plus, as Andy M says below, bugger to keep clean.

My main reason was that I had spokes snap in the rear wheel........twice..

Not happened since I changed to Alloys.........:P

spoke wheels

Only one place for spoke wheels, thats on a Harley or in the bin if there bmw spoke wheels, you can't argue the fact that the spoke wheels are an absolute arse to keep clean and looking good unless you are prepared to spend hours on them,I'm not so thats one good reason to fit alloys, another is the much wider choice of tyre fitment and improved handling.Take the 1200 it looks fantastic with the alloys, but very plain Jane with spokers. It would be interesting to see who has opted for spokers on their 1200's,not many I bet.The furute is alloys I'm affraid wether you think they look sh1te or not.Andy

Oi!!! What about me??

Can me & my Adv hybrid join? Black's definitely stealthy.
