Lovely day here, and the wife is off with the boys as I was supposed to be in Russia all week, but it got postponed, so, decided to take the 'classic' GSA out for a spin as I hadn't used it much since the accident last year.

Started off after a hearty breakfast, got to the end of the road, so first photo within 10 minutes. This is from St Cezaire looking west

Carried on through St Cezaire, up to St Vallier de Thiey where I turned onto the Route Napoleon. I thought this would be busier as it's the school holidays here, think everyone else must be on the beach. You can see the sea from here, but it's a bit hazy in the photo.

Further up the Route Napoleon, still not much out

Up over the Col de la Faye and towards Castellane

Another vehicule on the road :eek Just after the turnoff to Caille.

More traffic free tarmac heaven

IMG2015-XL.jpg

Even Castellane was quiet, I was the only bike there, which is something I'd never seen before, what a waste. Quick coffee for Luke :thumb

Heading into the Gorges, shame about the phone wires

IMG2022-XL.jpg

Sure a few of you recognise this bit of the road.

IMG2023-XL.jpg

On the way up to the Point Sublime

IMG2025-XL.jpg

Took the little interior loop road (Route des Cretes) which for my money is THE Gorges du Verdon road. Stunning views from up here, though it adds an hour to the loop. Worth it :thumb

Further up the Route des Cretes

You really don't get any idea of the size of these cliffs here, they're feckin huge

IMG2035-XL.jpg

Couple of nutty Italians, quite happily chatting away, again this is a long, long, long way down.:eek

IMG2038-XL.jpg

More nutty climbers :D

IMG2040-XL.jpg

Still a dusting of snow on the mountains, but warm enough where I was

IMG2042-XL.jpg

Looking back down the Route des Cretes.

IMG2043-XL.jpg

Gorges looked absolutely gorgeous today, amazing light.

IMG2045-XL.jpg

An eagle. Shame I didn't have a better zoom :blast

IMG2047-XL.jpg

Down the other side, weather was holding up nicely and still no traffic to speak of :D

IMG2050-XL.jpg

Further down the road. Just after I took this, was putting the camera back in the bag and the bike fell over. :blast In my haste to pick it up, never thought of taking a photo of it lying on it's side. :D
Couple of scratches on the engine bars and hand guards, it'll live to fight another day

IMG2051-XL.jpg

Careful to put the bike in 1st gear this time :augie

IMG2053-XL.jpg

View south to the other side with the tunnels de Mescla visible in the rock face.

IMG2055-XL.jpg

Still no traffic on the road on the 'Rive Gauche' visible on the right ;)

IMG2058-XL.jpg

Getting a bit cloudy though, looking down to the Lac de St Croix at the end of the gorges.

IMG2063-XL.jpg

Same spot, looking south..

IMG2065-XL.jpg

Shame it was a bit overcast, the sun shining on the Lac gives it an amazing colour. Still not too shabby though :D I'll be coming down that road on the right, crossing the bridge then up to Aiguines to come back along the south side of the gorges.

IMG2067-XL.jpg

Up the other side now, on the homeward stretch. Looking back down to Lac St Croix

IMG2070-XL.jpg

Clouds getting darker though....ulp, I never brought any waterproofs :augie

IMG2071-XL.jpg

Further along the south road.

IMG2072-XL.jpg

When the signs say beware, falling rocks.....they're not feckin kidding

IMG2074-XL.jpg

Just after I'd crossed the bridge before the restaurant at the Balcons de Mescla

IMG2075-XL.jpg

Finally, nearly 5 hours after leaving home, time for a cuppa on the terrace. Good to see the sun again ha ha

Well, that's all folks, hope it cheered you up knowing at least somebody is out there enjoying the sunshine :thumb

Good to see you out & about again:thumb..........................especially on your 'old faithful' too:clap

Fantastic :clap

This is part of my planned summer trip :thumb2

I'm booked into the Hotel du Commerce in Castellane.

Cool, might be a bit more traffic around then :D Gimme a shout when you're coming, might scoot up for a beer, Castellane is under 45 minutes from where I am.:thumb

Cheers Johnny, nice to be out and about again, I missed the old girl. Done 123,000kms now, but ran like clockwork all the way around. Might go out for another spin tomorrow.

:D

Cheers..../Rob

Agree, whets the appetite for the summer head and brings back good memories from a couple of years ago when I rode from Millau to Grasse via these gorges. Bit off more than I was expecting mileage/time-wise though, really cos I was stopping every few miles to take photos ! Back again this summer...:clap

ha ha, I know I'm one lucky barsteward....Should make more of it really, easy to take it all for granted when it's on the doorstep, but as that was the first rideout in a long time, I'm gonna do it more often from now on :D
