Castellane & The Gorges Du Verdon 2010

Went there this afternoon

Had the day off, so had a scoot up to Castellane with the wife. Went along via Callas, Comps sur Artuby, and Jabron. Nice day oot. Had a bit of fun with a DB9 and Porsche turbo on the way back...got it over 160kph but the feckers were still pulling away and the wife was digging me to slow down:augie

On the D52 from Jabron

If you hadn't had the Mrs in tow you would have had them both.........a well ridden GS blah.... blah.....

Looks like a great day out, must get down there myself one day ;)

Even without the missus, they would have been far too quick for me these days :D Nice to see cars like that being driven like they should be, though the speeds were a bit mental for public roads....not a lot of traffic out there today though :augie

Looks good :thumb2, can't wait, Late August / Early September can't come soon enough:D Theres talk of riding to the col de tende, anybody done it?

Looks like quite a challenge, but hopefully a few in our group fancy it. I took your advice and I have asked Adrian if he is ok to "lead" a ride up there if others are interested. Hopefully that will come to fruition.

I too am looking forward to this trip. It would be great if Franco could give some good tips for places to drop by or have lunch or coffee too. :thumb

Cheers,

Matt

Now 24 people booked and paid on this, so looking like a good number. :thumb

I rode it about 4 years ago on a fully laden Blackbird, it's a superb road, one of the best I've ridden.

Very well surfaced, flowing bends, so good I had to turn round and do parts of it again

:bounce1

Featured in one of the Fast Bike videos with Shakey Byrne, if I recall...?

Watch out for the tunnel though, very dark and goes from 2 lanes your way, to one lane your way, without warning. The first we knew was when two lorries were headed for us side by side.

Lots of local bikers use it too, gets pretty busy at the weekends.

:)

Looks like we could be getting toward 50 people for this little holiday now...

Ride-out supplied by our very own EasyRider, and a slap up meal one evening with wine for 23 Euros a head... looking good :)

Still nice here

Went up there last weekend in July, and took this just off the Route Napoleon you can make out the rock with the church in Castellane just to the right of the tree in the middle. Should be able to get up there for a day. Work will be manic, as it'll be my first day back after 3 weeks off :D

Hi Franco,

It'll be good to see you there, any day would be good if you get there early you could latch on to some rides, The first Sunday (5th Sept) you may find most people on-site for the day as they get over the ride down :)

See you there !

Mark

Can't wait

I have got the routes loaded in the Zumo already!

Me and uncle are both ready for the off:thumb2

Not long to go now.... We will be having a ride to St Paul on Tuesday, so any locals are welcome to meet us there for lunch if you fancy it. Alternatively have a a ride up to see us at the site on Sunday as most of us will be there.

Cheers,

Matt

Nearly there!

Me and Mike are in Grenoble. Weather has been great so far 29degrees. We are going to ride the last leg down to Castellane tomorrow.
