Ive just noticed this thread as I had no idea what a CAT code plug was. I recently purchased an 1100GS with K&N, Remus, Y-Piece and no oxygen sensor fitted.

Because Ive never had a GS before I have no idea what it should feel like but the previous owner said he never used the choke which makes me think it may be running rich. Yes it farts a bit so Im gonna take a look see if I can find this CCP thing in the fuse box later this morning and give the Steptoe mod a go.

Should the oxygen sensor be fitted, if so are they expensive?

OK just checked and I have a relay fitted which is just a link box as per Steptoes mod, same pins linked but within a box.

Only question is then should I have an oxygen sensor fitted?

Stop reading - the link is for the 1150 models not the 1100.

Done Steptoes mod on my 1150 GSA with standard can and Y piece. Works well.
Also balanced throttles (even though it was only about a quarter turn needed on one air screw)
Bike feels much better. I probably won't bother with a Techlusion now.

Just seen this!
I have a decat and remus on 2001 1150R and mine pops and bangs on overun!!

took my std yellow relay out which looked like pins 2 + 6 and fitted the wire mod to 5+6. Will run it tomorrow and see if it makes a difference!
;)

Ok, seems to have improved the popping and banging on overrun about 80% and poss increased fuel consumption- 150 miles with 2 bars left?? not sure if its any faster but seems to run better!!

Did the mod yesterday on my 2002 GSA and I'm very pleased with the outcome.I had a yellow plug in and after fitting the jumper its runs much smoother and the throttle response between 160 - 180 km/h is amazing! Thanks Steptoe:beerjug:

I have read through all the posts and I think I know what to do with my bike. Its an 04 GSA twinspark with Y piece and OE silencer, as I do not have a 0 terminal in the CCP plug I assume I use 5 and 6. Also someone mentioned a Techlusion unit, I have been offered a new one at a very reasonable price and wondered how good they were? Any thoughts anyone.
Thanks Richard

I have just read the thread about linking up connections 5 and 6 on the cat code plug.
I have only recently bought my 1999 1150GS and it came with a Y piece and a Remus and also a Techlusion black box fitted. It seems to be running OK, however since this is my first GS, then I have nothing to compare it against.
I was wondering whether I should try the cat code mod, or does the techlusion black box mean that I don't need to do this. I am just afraid that I might do some damage.

Any thoughts or advice?

you cant do damage, its been stated loads of times on here,
keep with the techlusion, you wont need a cat code link with this properly set,
and no, you cant run weaker than a standard bike with one, it only adds fuel,:thumb

Hi Steptoe

Without wishing to incur great wrath :hide , my 1100gs has the cat plug installed, but runs poorly - will playing with it have the same effect as the 1150?

thanks for being patient with a newbie :bow

Pretty obvious answer seeing as it's your bike and i'm sitting at my kitchen table a hundred miles away - Pull it out and see :nenau

Lol. You really are a grumpy old fecker! I took my (there when i bought it) cat code wire out earlier. Runs smoother with power in different areas. Seems happier though. Happy days.:aidan

I'm new here, so if this is a dumb question, sorry.

I've only had my 1150GS for a month, came with Y piece and remus exhaust, and yellow CCP.
I understand how the link works, but is the dummy relay powered with the ignition off, as in, do you need to remove any continous power supply to reset it or just rip what's in there and bung in the link?

I discovered this thread a couple of weeks ago when I put a Y piece and Remus on my 1150GSA. It had previously been running on the standard exhaust and cat with no coding relay fitted, which was how it was when I bought it two years ago 2nd hand. To be honest I didn't even know it had a coding plug! It was only when prepping for my forthcoming trip and was advised to get a 91 ROZ coding plug to deal with crappy 3rd world / outback Auzzie petrol, that I discovered they existed.

I looked in the fuse box to see what I'd be swapping with the 91 ROZ plug and discovered a gap where the standard plug once was!

The bike ran fine without it on the standard exhaust set up, but when I put the Remus & Y piece on it ran even better. Much smoother and seem's to rev more freely.

Out of curiosity I tried Steptoe's mod, but I found that the bike felt a bit sluggish when I'd done it. I pulled over and yanked the wire out and the bike immediately felt better again.

As he says in his thread, every bike is different, so for the sake of a few pennies worth of wire (or even a bent paper-clip!) it's worth having a play around and seeing what set up YOUR bike prefers.

By the way............VERY pleased with the Y piece & Remus. Looks better, sounds better (although it was too loud without the baffle in :augie ) and the bike seems to like it too. Can't get over the weight saving too. New set up must be about a third of the weight of the original cat & can set up!

If the bike in your avatar is the one that you are talking about, then it won't ever have had a CCP although BMW would have sold you one for lower octane fuel use (at an exorbitant price no doubt).
