Ahh, so that's what's in the little yellow box!
As it happens, that was the box that wasn't there! It's the Grey, 91 ROZ box that I bought (complete with BMW logo of course which naturally makes it worth every penny of the eleven quid).
Don't forget Steptoe old chap, we're not all mechanical geniuses like wot you is!
Interesting that the pin position of the standard yellow code plug is different to the position of your wire and spade connector "mod." I thought your mod was supposed to duplicate the standard plug's effect?

I have run with a Remus and Y piece since the bike was new (2003) Always ran OK but I had noticed since moving to Austria that I was getting more popping and farting-that's the bike-personally it's all that fizzy beer that causes the problem but that's another story. I tried the Steptoe mod. using a bit of scrap brass to make up a connector. Bike appeared to run slightly better but I then got starting problems. I took out the plugs and from this evidence it was clear the bike was running very lean. I removed the link and the starting problem was solved. We are at 840m here in the valley and most of the time I ride the higher roads often over 2,000m. I wonder if this has any effect? The fuel injection should compensate so maybe my bike is just one on which the Mod does not work. Oh well back to the popping and farting!

I have jumpered 5-6 mine to see if it makes a difference. I dont have a Y piece fitted but a collector box as part of my Staintune exhuast system. Ill see how it goes

Yep. That's the one I got with my BB chip bought years ago for my 850GS. Waste of money; it didn't achieve anything that couldn't have been done at a fraction of the cost by trying different connections in the ccp socket. Shame I learned this after I'd bought the chip. My 850GS (sadly, now sold) and my 1100RS both run nicely without a ccp or wire connection. The former, bought new, never had a plug. I don't believe the RS did either, though I can't be certain. Neither is as economical as some claim, though on the other hand they don't surge, go well and don't use excessive amounts of fuel. Fine by me.
Just linked 5 and 6 as per the suggested fix for a Y and Remus...idles better and runs quieter and smoother. It was popping and banging on the over run for all it was worth....Thanks Steptoe.
The slots are the small spade sized though and none of the accessory shops round here stock mini spades...so a good pair of side cutters were employed to trim down a standard sized one each end. I know the coating has peeled off (they are laminated) but they'll last a while with vaseline smeared over them to keep the water out.
Now, I just hope the fuel economy improves too. I could do with another 3 or 4 MPG for nothing.

More likely your consumption will increase slightly, particularly around town.
I tried this a few weeks ago. My bike was running with no plug, then I tried 2-6 (the supposed 'standard') and didn't notice a difference, then 5-6 and definitely have a sweeter running bike now. It's got more zip to it, especially when starting from cold. Doesn't seem to have affected my fuel economy much either.
I'm running standard can and cat but have just bought a y-piece.
I bought a bag of mini spades to do this so have enough to make another few connectors if anyone needs any.

Over the last two days done 441 miles Thursday and 397 miles today.....consumption has gone from around 300 miles per tank (light coming on plus a bit) to just over 200 miles and th elight came on, both days. That is a 30% increase.
I think I would rather blow the windows out of the houses in the street I ride down.
Anyone any ideas? Maybe I have linked the wrong two slots - I can't read the numbers, not even with a magnifyer! Middle row, two right side slots joined. Looked the same as Steptoe's picture!
Right then, I shall immediately go and cut some swishy birch twigs and thrash myself with them...after which I shall lift the saddle and take the middle right hand spade and insert it into the middle top one (front).
