hi,
i picked up a bike the other day and i noticed that when i switch the ignition on, the bike starts a self check( i hear a whirring sound) etc then a few seconds later on the display it says "caution!" and then the red ABS light flashes but as soon as the bike starts to move the ABS light goes off. the caution also goes out after starting the bike.

any ideas about this??? its an 2006 model.

thanks in advance.

not sure if this is a serious post, but I'll post a reply anyway:)

Whirring is the servo, ABS light sight stays on until the wheels move at over 5mph (I think) at which point it can do a self check.

That is of course stated in the user manual:augie

yes it is a serious post - i did search before i posted but as there are so many ABS posts it took a while to find it by myself. - i was just going to post back to say i found the answer.

but thanks for the reply :thumb

I knew the whirr should have been normal but wasnt sure about the CAUTION message is this normal also??

The owners manual i have is in german so i am waiting for an english version to arrive :nenau i would of course have read it otherwise

Yes......the flashing and waring caution is normal.

It will stop flashing (or at least it should, if it is working properly) after you have ridden a few meters.

It is simply that the ABS needs to 'calibrate' (for want of a better word) itself through forward movement.

don't worry, I've only had my GS (first real bike) since last June, and it took me quite a while to get used to everything. Enjoy the bike and enjoy riding it in Switzerland! I know I certainly did when I visited last year.

Lucky bast!

It always worries my pillion passengers with the red flashing light,

was the same on my honda vtec,

Be careful that your handguard doesn't get pushed against the brake lever or the light will stay on all the time and you'll have no ABS - happened to me :o
