Due to the poor quality of BMW finish ( do I sound bitter ?) I'm going to remove my centerstand for sand blasting/repainting.

I have had bad experience with powder coating ( not getting into the nooks & crannies) so paint it is...

Any tips on the removal/replacement process.. Yes I know the obvious...:blast

It should be an easy process I know but it's raining & got f**k else to do...:nenau

Thanks in advance...:thumb

Don't know if this works but heard a tip a while ago. Get a bag of pennies (possibly 2p pieces) and jam them into the coils of the spring. This then stretches out the length without using brute force allowing easy removal and re-assembly.

Brilliant idea.. Thanks, I'll give it a try...:bow

Heard of, but never used the coin trick.

I've found stands are usually easy to reassemble if you fit the springs before the pivots.

It works:D

You must be loaded :D A whole bag!!!

I used the coint trick a month or so ago. Used the kids trapoline to hold one end of the spring as I dont have a vice, and the kids piggy bank to supply the coins. It still takes a lot of effort to get the coins in as you need to bend the spring almost 360degs to make enough room to get the coins in
(on an 06 - I noticed that later models have different springs so maybe easier).

Here is a pic (I hope as its the first time i've tried to add a pic).
