Hi All
I thought that I would remove the centre stand on my 2012 GS Rallye to grease it properly. The pivot screws unscrew about 3 turns and then lock. I have checked the parts fiche and there is no locking device shown. The other side does exactly the same. I have always kept them oiled and there is no trace of rust anywhere. Any thoughts please.
Thanks

Are there lock nuts on the back of the bolts? On my 2006 it just has threaded top hats and the bolts come out easily.

Hi Kevin
No locknuts just the threaded bushes. I can just see the end of the screw in the bush when the screw is tight and can see it disappear after slackening. It's really odd as it's exactly the same on the other side.

Id say get some 3in1 oil in the thread and keep working the bolts back and forth.
Its worth replacing the bolts as one of mine broke not long after I got the bike.
I ended up machining new threaded bushes (tophats) from 316 stainless steel
and used new A2 stainless bolts with a douse of copper slip.

Ive never removed a centre stand, but i have removed the side stand and there is a circlip on the bolt. Check that that the centre stand is not the same as the side stand.

Thanks Kevin. You have confirmed that there's nothing I've missed so I will try to loosen the screw and replace it with a new copperslipped one.

Thanks

John

The stand spring has an M6 screw to take up the tension. Slacken it off but leave attached to the stand.

The stand pivots on a flanged bush about 20mm diameter, with a countersunk M8 screw holding the bush to the main frame. The bush has two flats on its inner edge. Hold these with an adjustable spanner and you will be able to turn the M8 countersink screw.

Reassemble with moly grease on the bush and threads. Fit the spring last and tighten the M6 tensioner.

Hi Bendy
I have held the bush with a spanner but it stops turning after 3 turns. As Kevin has confirmed that there's no lock and that the screw should unscrew so I will try to loosen it. Failing that drill out the head and replace it all.

Thanks

John
