centre stand touchdown?

I remember a ride out with a friend me on me Harley round the twisties scrapped both sides down plenty, he was shocked it could do that let alone the speeds involved :green gri
I can ride anything hard tail choppers no problem lower tyre pressure in rear, them old Zeds manhandled round the roads love it scrapey scrapey :D

My boots often touch on cornering not ground out my stands on GS though have got wilbers F&R :P

Had the pannier down on my 650 Dakar, just as the front and rear tyre let go, stayed on though thanks to the force (or blind luck, take your pick :D).

I have always managed to rid the chicken strips on the GS, but never had the peg down, I am a pussy, but I'm still alive (for now).

Take the stand off. 95% of the time the side stand is all you need.

i was told by BMW that if i parked for any prolonged period to always use the centre stand, thus preventing the oil running into one head leaving the other starved on start up, on a run out to Abergavenny i left it on the side stand for a while, she was hot after a spirited ride, when i started her up she smoked like hell - its not happened since as i pop it on the centre stand more often.
Mine is a 2012 GS, i have a foot on the centre stand that grounds on bends, but usually boots and foot pegs

Oil drains naturally while using the bike so I don't believe it makes any difference to park it on the side stand. Mine only smokes on starting if I over fill the oil. Though I do have a hockey puck stand extender. I can see the normal (excessive) lean causing the cylinder to fill.

I have a 2011 GS and on a recent two up trip I was grounding the rh side of the centre stand. Got the ESA suspension so guess you can't do anymore than set it for two up. Anyone on here ever changed the spring for a more heavy duty one?

There's another thread on this too, my centre stand is always in the tarmac, along with the toes of my boots and foot pegs, however on one right-hander in a sharp dip... i got the brake lever down. I was advised to crank up the preload, which i have done - she rides better but, but it's not stopped the grounding of the pegs and centre stand - especially if you follow Paul Nicholls over the Yorkshire Moors...

I found the centre stand was getting minimal use so the bike now has just the side stand. For anyone worried about grounding the thing - just take it off.
Touratech probably have a farkle for the brake lever problem. It won't stop the grounding and it will rub the lever paint and trap salt against bare metal but it probably looks tuff.

BMW and others on her don't recommend standing for periods on the side stand due to the oil level, it will gather to the left side and apparently you can get oil passing the piston rings causing smoking, mine has smoked on restart after a while on the side stand on a run, and I'm not sure if it effects proper lubrication on the right side when you do start it if it's bee stood a while leaning to the left.

The bike should not be left ticking over for long periods on centre or side stand so oil pooling when running should not be an issue.
Mine has been parked on side stand pretty much ever since I bought it due mainly to parking space. I've only had smoke on startup when I over filled the sump. Then of course oil floods up the bore and past the rings. Thankfully I had not gone far enough (with the oil can) to hydraulic lock the piston.

Unless you like making sparks just take it off.
