Was driving home from work tonight came round round about and lost all drive. :wall: Coasted to the curb and got off and chain had jumped off. Put it back on and managed to ride home but its as floppy as anything....much more than the recommended amount. Checked the axel alignment and it hasnt moved from when i tightened the chain a few weeks back. So.............. any suggestions what else has happened, there doesnt appear to be any excessive wearon the chain or back sprocket. I dont want to just tighten the rear axel if there is obviuosly a bigger problem somewhere else. Havent really looked too much further at the bike as too late.

Although you say the spindle position hasn`t moved from where it was after adjusting it,are you sure you adjusted it correctly ???

Unless something got caught up in the chain and 'derailed it' at the sprocket,it can only really be a too slack chain or wheel misalignment caused by chain adjustment from only one side inside of adjusting both sides equally.....

check the chain slack with the suspension compressed

i.e. someone sitting on it .

If you accidently overtightened the chain, you could have caused excessive stretch in the following weeks.
As Steptoe says, you need to get the front sprocket, swing arm pivot and rear wheel spindle in line (where chain is at its tightest) to check chain is not too tight after adjusting.

Hubby now checked it for me and wheel wasnt misaligned and was set on mark that it was set on last time, No obvious reason for why chain suddenly became excessive loose (So that it was resting on the centre stand when stationary)

Something must have derailed it unless you had a pebble in the front sprocket whilst it was tensioned last time which made it seem ok but when the pebble worked its way out it made the chain slack.Anyway all i can say is,gotta be better than the guy who's rear wheel came off!!

My chain fell off and just left this shaft thingy. It's great now cause I don't have to oil it all the time.

Lot's of stuff falling off recently, might get my spanners out this weekend and speed up the process. Could do with lightening the bike up.

Chains are a pain, be crafty and buy a shafty!!!!!!!! :thumb
