Chain recall thread

Resurrecting an old thread here but I have some serious chain issues :(

I have a 2010 f800gs not covered by the recall and after 9k miles I have found it is missing 6 o-rings and has links binding. BMW will not cover the bike under the recall and will only offer new chain and sprockets at a 50% discount.

This seems ridiculous as the bike is still under warranty and the chain is obviously failing due to manufacturing issues. Any one have any advice ?

Looks like they have now given me the official answer of no. 50% off or nothing.

I have bought a Tsubaki chain from B&C and some Renthal sprockets and will now try arguing for the cost of them from BMW. Worth a try :D

Out of interest what product did you use to clean chain, and what product to lubricate.

It appears the recommended rear sprocket by B&C doesn't fit the f800gs. They are going to take it back but don't think they have another which will fit. Has anyone bought a 3rd party rear sprocket for the bike? If so where did you get it as I am now in need :(

BMW modified the sprocket bolts, they then changed them completely in about 2009. They went up from 8mm to 10mm. If you've got an early bike, you won't be able to fit the later sprocket.

Strangely, although there were well known issues with the chain (which they took forever to rectify), I don't recall any issues with the sprocket mounting.
