I first posted this on general, but now I am happy to report that having built a kind of 4 poster bed over my 1150GS and suspended rear frame, front forks and jack under the engine, I have at last, despite the myriad electrics and wiring bits managed to separate gearbox from engine!

In fact the gearbox drve shaft rear wheel brake and shock absorber all was wheeled back as one great lum on a trolley without,I might add, bending the clutch pushrod. Well its only taken me sixx weeks, now its time to remove the engine then split it!

My question is - in the Clymer manual they show a box for the engine to sit in on the bench - but dont give any dims. I assume its to fit the sort of square sump? does anyone have any dims or a better solution as \I read that the engine is top heavy!

I only had the bike 3 months when this happened so the sunny weather has spurred me on to get finished!:thumb

I was tooling up Wrotham Hill on M20 when there was a bang and engine lost power _ I drove on about another 45 miles to home on one cylinder thought a plug had blown. apparently cam chain tensioner guide had broken up then valve damage occured (a chunk broke off one valve). I took it to dealer but was going to cost £2k to repair. BMW would not help as I didnt buy thru dealer. Bike is 2002 23000miles only so this problem is rare at that mileage. have started pulling whole bike apart to do myself. Sorry didnt explain this earlier.

Oh right OK - so I'd be having the engine apart too. There's plenty on here that can offer much better advice than me, so being very much an amateur I'll keep schtum, but I can say having done gearboxes and clutches and all that on my 1150 - they are pretty straight forward so long as you take your time and think about what you're doing. So good luck :thumb Let us know how you get on.

Pluck
