Hi Folks
Off to sunny? Spain on Tuesday - was planning to spend 2 weeks in the north - Asturias, Cantabria and then Pyrenees, but have you seen the weather? It's warmer and apparently drier here!:blast
I fancy some sun, so if it's still raining, I may just ride south-east to Valencia then up the east coast to Barcelona.
Any recommendations for great roads between Burgos and Valencia, then north to Barcelona would be much appreciated.
Cheers,:thumby:

Suggestion

In Burgos, Hotel Maria Luisa is nice. Little bar next door for a beer and just a light stroll in to the city from here.
HOTEL MARIA LUISA ***
Avda del Cid Campeador, 42
09005 Burgos

From Burgos pick up the National 234 to Soria – loverly place this is, with the roman aqueduct. Stay on the N234 in to Aragon (province) and just before Torrelapaja take the A 1052 to Ateca.

After Ateca turn right signed for Madrid and follow the N 11a and then just short distance before turning left on the A 1051 signed for Castejon.

Follow this road and go over the lake, taking the sign for Nuevalos
A 202 (through the tunnel). This road goes back in to Castilla la Mancha becoming the A 210 as it goes. Go through Molina then branch off to the CM 2106 – beautiful road, goes through the Serrania de Cuenca national park and all the way down to Canete.

Turn right then, N 420 for Cuenca, then take the CM 215 to Landete. From here the N 330 will bring you down to Utiel, (west of Valencia).

A bit round the houses and it depends how much time you have to kill, but definitely very scenic and some great stretches of road.
Sailed in and out of Bilbao earlier this month and it was pretty much shit, weather wise, until we headed in a more southerly direction.
Always had it nice in Burgos though :thumb.

If your sailing in to Santander the N623 to Burgos is brilliant - also recommended by Bakerman when he did it recently on the Bultaco

(It is a shit-hot road though - stop at the 'Sierra del Escudo' for the view, just before you cross in to Castile and Leon)

Sorry can’t advise northbound back – always been on the motorway past Valencia, then Barcelona and beyond. Coast will be easy enough to follow though.

I can certainly assure you that the north is a tad damp and chilly at the mo,lots of rain/snow in the Pyrenees, and even the Costa Brava is beset with thunderstorms and low evening temps of 10 c,:eek Spanish long range forecasts can't see an end to it either. Head well south young man.

Sunny and a pleasant 25c this afternoon down this way (60 miles or so south of Valencia). Have some great roads in land. Next weeks forecast is good. :thumb

with all it's Roman architecture

is what i meant to say about Soria :blast - the aqueduct as we all know, is in Segovia nth of Madrid. Also a very nice place.

Still, the weather looks better further south so just do it!

Hmm.. that sounds like very sage advice gents. South it is!!
Thanks for the great photos and route advice - much appreciated.
Phil I'll deffo take your route south of Burgos - looks spectacular on google maps satelite.
I followed Bakerman's thread last month - looked sunny didn't it? I really fancied the N623 last year but got sidetracked so it's a must this time round.

Cheers again fellas.:thumb

On your way North to Barca check out the area just North of Tortosa....its about mid way between Valencia and Barca.
There are too many great roads out there to mention all but if you only have time to do one can I suggest you get the C12 from Tortosa to Miravet via the 'ferry' across the Ebro from the C12 to Miravet then take the back road to Prat de Compte (N230) and then take the hill road to Bot
(TV3301) ...awesome! From Bot go to Gandessa, Asco, Flix and across to Mequinenza...check it out on Google earth

Cheers Hary! Looks superb. I'd been looking at maps of the Puertos de Beseit west of Tortosa - I couldn't decide which route to take, but yours looks the business.
That's my little jaunt organised. All I need now is the weather.

Thanks again folks.:thumby:
