Does anyone have the Wunderlich seat for a R1300 GS and can tell me how much more wide it is over the standard? Can't find it or a decent review anywhere. Thanks Jay

I have just ordered my Russell Daylong seat for the 1300gsa, had one on my 1250gsa and loved it.

Unfortunately it’s the states but worth the wait I can assure you. I got recommended to these seats from some iron but guys and I have never regretted it

It's the import duties and extras you have to pay to get it in the UK, I never buy anything from the states due to being stung too many times. Its weird how I buy buy whatever from china though and there is never anything to pay.🤷‍♂️

The seats on most modern bikes have not kept up with the advances in bike technology the seat on my Honda Blackbird was awful the same as was the original seat on my tc1200gsa both resulting in aftermarket purchases .they need to sort this shit out .

It's the same as minuscule foot pegs and numerous other parts on a bike, opens up a whole world of accessories they can sell you. BMW isn't so bad but when I had a Super Adventure there were something like 11 different seat combinations and that's was from KTM. I wish they were an inch wider at the rear and firmer for those with an Athletic frame (Sumos are athletes I tell the misses).

Not a great deal in it, width wise. 1cm ish? Just overall deeper and flatter.

The Queen pillion is definitely wider though.

How is the comfort? Any improvement?

The "comfort" seat is the least impressive part of my R1300GS. I am trying to convince myself it is better with the Wunderlich raising/levelling rubber bits and the seat "lumbar support" deployed. I'm not sure it is, so I'm considering an after-market seat - for the first time ever.

There's always a breaking in period, so it's hard to say. Pillion "Queen" seat (there are two versions, this one is wider) has met with approval, as it doesn't feel like sitting atop a slide.

So far the rider seat seems like a nicer position, a bit higher, a bit less sloped into the tank. Need to get a few miles on it now.

I ordered the high one then sent it back as I couldn't get on with it, Id be interested to see what you think in a couple of weeks

Thoughts so far.
  • Very firm
  • Still comfortable though, because it's so nicely shaped.
  • You can sit towards the front, back middle and it's equally as comfortable on the backside. This allows you to adjust for arm position to the bars.
  • Expect it to soften up over time.
  • As I have a Cool Cover on it this increases the height another 5-7mm ish.
  • Wider at the narrow point makes it harder to flat foot the bike. I'm a 34" inseam , and "high" seat plus Cool Cover means I can reach the ground with the balls of my feet in bike trainers but can't quite get both heels on the deck at the same time. In boots it may be different.
  • The upside to this is the leg position is much more relaxed, especially as I have the wider Motech footpegs on the lower setting.
  • The downside (beyond the slight stretch to the floor, which I'm happy enough with) is the bars feel a touch low in comparison. It's not bad, per se, just room for improvement.
  • I think raising the bars 20- 30mm should bring everything into alignment. (Can't go up and back due to tank bag, but up should be enough).

I,ve a standard height one on mine. I found the standard BMW comfort seat shockingly uncomfortable typically getting a sore arse within half an hours riding. Used Rippl shorts which improved quite a bit.

Got the Wunderlich days before going on my holidays and would agree with the point on breaking it in. However did 3000miles with zero discomfort and no need to use the shorts anymore.

Fiddlesticks, you just reminded me, I also put 30mm risers on which helps comfort too.

When you send your seat to Russell`s you send it as a warranty repair and they send it back as such to avoid the duty.

My new seat arrived today, the ultimate in comfort

I was disappointed in my Wunderlech seat when first fitted, then read they need breaking in, and it has improved. My preference is Corbin, but they were not available.

So far, I've got a few hundred miles on my Wunderlich seat. I'm not too impressed so far. Maybe it will get better with more miles?
