Changes to the 1250 GSA?

You could try a lower seat which effectively makes the bars feel higher and a sense that you are in the bike rather than on it, with less of a stretch which may help the Fybro.
I’m 6’4” so can’t go too low, but I’ll try it with the seat in the low position. On my 2010 bike I had the high seat in the high position, I can’t remember what seat and position I tried a couple of years ago on the demo bike.

If you go for a 2019 Rallye HP, factor in the cost of a replacement battery as it will probably be spent and need replacement. DAMHIK.

Just skim read the thread, seems like it’s a widespread issue of the battery dropping charge on start and not charging very quickly meaning it won’t start after short trips?

Is this model/year specific and is there a reliable long term fix?

It seems common on the 2019 year 1250’s, there’s a 41 page thread over on Advrider forum that covers it.

I just bought a fairly expensive “Hybrid” battery for mine and its early days yet, but I’m blown away with how good it is thus far. It’s new technology specifically for big bore long stroke motorcycles that has only been around for around three years in USA, some of the stuff they have started with this battery like 6.6 litre diesels defies belief.

What’s “fairly expensive”? I may have to look into what the colour schemes are like for the 2020 bikes ;)

I paid £151 delivered from Motorworks, then I found the same battery elsewhere for £127 delivered.

I had an AGM battery on order for £77 with the vendor website claiming to have stock, but they were charlatans. I have a foreign trip next week so needed a quick resolution to the issue.

Watch out for your insurance on newer bikes, some underwriters won’t touch stuff over £15k or £20k now.

Pending a test rider I'm hoping to buy a 1250GSA. I've always liked the colour scheme of the 2019 HP, however I see that in 2021 the GSA got some updates including improved ABS, 5-way heated grips, new headlight and new IMU (whatever that is), are these genuinely worth paying extra for and going for a colour scheme you don't like as much or are they more of a "just nice to have"? My last GS was the 2010 air-cooled DOHC GSA so I'd imagine the 2019 is quite an improvement over what I had? I appreciate some of this will be subjective.

Also I can't find any other info regarding changes, does this mean that the 1250 GSA remains unchanged from 2021-2024?
I'll keep it short and sweet.... Buy one their fooking brilliant, it'll make your 2010 GSA feel like a Penny Farthing!! :thumby: ;)

Thanks, will keep a watch on your feedback of the battery.

I’d not heard that about insurers, crazy that. It’ll likely be under £15k I’ll be looking at.

Dont worry about the battery...I buy a new one every 3rd season as cheap insurance and never had a problem and Never put it on a charger ! EU-4 bikes have 8hp/4ft-lb more than the 2021 EU-5 bikes according to the Bennetts dyno and roll-on I have done with my buddy mine 2019 vs his 2022...I would buy a 1250GS-ADV over a R1300GS because the engine sounds better and feels more punchy up to 6000 rpm at least because of longer stroke and shorter gearing I suppose...But when they get 3 mms more instead of 3 mms less stroke I definitely trade up to the 2028 R1400GS-ADV...LOL !!!

Thanks, I wouldn't get the 1300GS as I don't like the styling, especially the headlight (YMMV), plus the GS is a bit small for me.

I’ve found from owning 4 consecutive GSA’s (the latest being less than 2 months old) is that there have been subtle changes and tweaks made by the manufacturer that have made the bike easier and more pleasurable to own, as the bike has gone through it’s lifecycle. I can list some of the more well known changes like; TFT display, wider choice of settings on heated grips, adaptive headlight, shiftcam, ABS Pro, heated seat option, etc…

I momentarily considered the 1300 but am only really interested in what will be the GSA version, which means waiting, waiting to see what it looks like, waiting to see if there any teething issues, etc. I also thought about keeping the 2020 GSA that I already had but am now very pleased that I decided to get another new one. How can I sum this up….? Let’s just say, I wish my first GSA (a 2014 LC) had been as good as the one I have now. Subtle and ongoing development. Some things we know about, because they’re announced, but other things are not spoken about. It’s odd how my latest one has the smoothest engine (no clatter or rattle), the best shift assist and the best ride?! BMW never said that they’d make those things better, yet they must do something! It’s not like my previous 2020 bike was old or had many miles on it (only 6500) in 4 years, so pretty much still a very new bike - and it looked new, but very different to the one I have now. Maybe my 2020 bike was just a bad example?

Anyways… I really like my new 1250GSA Trophy TE and I won’t be in any rush to be first in line for the 1300/1400 GSA when it comes out. I’ll look at it but will be very happy staying with my current bike until I’m ready and, more importantly, I know that the new GSA is ready.

Maybe that’s the case! At least I’ve finally ended up with a (the) good one! Good job it wasn’t expensive, finding it 😆

Out of curiosity do the 1250GS and GSA have the same riding position in terms of leg room and bar reach/forward lean assuming the same seat height? (I appreciate that the GSA would be higher off the ground).

I can't get onto the BMW Motorrad to look at dimensions as it keeps saying access denied whether I use safari or chrome

Not sure about that, but the ergonomics are easily adjusted especially when you make tweaks with bar risers, aftermarket seats or adjustable footpegs. There is a lot you can do after purchase to fine tune the riding position to suit.

I run a 1250GSA but have a Sargent seat, up and back bar risers and "Gilles" BMW adjustable HP footrests. I had similar on my previous Hexhead GSA. Both are (were) perfectly all-day comfortable for me, YMMV.

I can only get my toes down on one foot when seated with one arse cheek shifted sideways but I'm well practiced in handling the things (29" Inseam).

Thanks, fortunately I never had issue getting both feet down on my 1200GSA with the high seat in high position ;)

I guess the obvious answer is to visit a dealer and sit on (or test ride) both back to back.
