After 4 weeks and 4800 miles on my 2019 1250GS-HP I must say she is still the bike I rather ride ! Sometimes I still think about the S1000XR because of the fun top end but after a good month and 4800 mile trip with the GS I appreciate the whole package the XR cant give you even if it is more fun between 8 and 11000 rpm…LOL Northing can beat the whole package of the GS…The cylinders that protect your legs , the Grunt between 3500 and 8000 rpm , the Telelever that resists dive while soaking up all the bumps like a Hoovercraft and the clean almost no maintenance cardan shaft ! Even the sound is great with the Akra with baffles removed…With a gallon bigger tank , 1000 rpm / 25 hp more on top and a frame that does not wobble above 120 with bags & topcase it would be perfect ! Considering it is a now 11 year old design except for the shiftcam heads the 1250 GS is still a truly modern up to date amazing bike ! That had to be said…LOL

Arsey I know you have ridden the new R1300GS and claim it is the answer to my prayers but looking at it unfortunately its not…Smaller tank in order to advertise a lighter weight is a non - starter and cheap trick and the power increase does not move to goalpost to XR levels for a more exciting top end and the design especially the radar box instead of headlight and missing taillight might excite the controller but not the eye of the owners…They look shite on a Harley and so on a BMW ! The lacking sound we can do something about it by buying a full exhaust system that replaces the huge pre-muffler…Thanks to the idiots/criminals in Brussels as we cant blame BMW here as they made great sounding Boxers and the idiots in Austria who discriminate motorcycles that have more than 90 db should eat the linens of their empty hotel beds while listening to the cow bells…A testride will give the final answer but so far from what I am seeing all I like about the new one is the tank compartment , the fact that the taller & firmer sports suspension can be had with triple black , the sports-screen and the forged wheels right from the factory…I hope that history repeats itself with the 1300 and that the 1400 will do the same because as cold as the 1200GS-LC left me due to not really more power than the 1200 Twin Cam back in 2012 and the awfully noisy valvetrain I fell in love with the 1250 because of the TORQUE and less mechanical clatter ! Patience is a virtue my mother always said…LOL

As for the question if new 1300GS or one of the last old 1250 ADV I probably would go for one of the last new old ones and put black BMW cast wheels and a Akra without baffle on it…Tried and true , better looking , better too big then too small of a tank , real taillight , no funky looking radar box up front And better sound not to mention the bigger and more practical aluminum panniers ! BMW has its homework cut out to make the new one more desirable and give a reason to “upgrade” !
